The1's Daily
Re: The1's Daily
Well the idea of the corner pod is cause it can deliver ambient temps at all times where the factory system is rubbish, personal intention I already know its no better for flow or worse filtration, don't have to convince me oil filters are crap
I just need to find a way of using a paper filter in the corner box.

Re: The1's Daily
what car? VS?
it it a mace air box?
if yes to the above, I think you might be able to use the factory air box with the bottom half opened up to take air directly front he surrounding corner box that encloses it.
That was my idea anyway.
I once got an OTR factory cold intake, it was rubbish, worse than stock as the bonnet block the intakes and choked the engine something shocking. I clucked it in the bin and used the bit that goes on the air box as a basis to make my own cold intake using air ducts.

Re: The1's Daily
yeh vs v6, mace airbox with pod, though i havn't cut the window wash bottle pipe i just cut a hole in the lid so i could leave it long and still useable, anyway ive checked but even if i cut the pipe i wouldn't fit the whole box in there. So ive gone back to stock setup but done this, put some rubber pipe on it to make it longer, put a strip of foam in to block the bottom half, give it a go, should only get air coming from outside and should be blocked from radiator and interior heat. thoughts?

Re: The1's Daily
here is another idea.
cut the whole bottom half of the air box off, leaving only like 30mm or something from the flange. make up some brackets or mounting system on the bottom, that way it should fit inside easy as you have effectively taken off more that a 1/3rd in height and the bottom is fully open to draw air.
just another idea.
If there is a will, there is a way.

Re: The1's Daily
yeh was only trying to fit the top half in the box and line up the intake hole, ill see how this goes first, if not mod time.
Re: The1's Daily
Well that setup above with stock system gets good temps, but has bad flow with just the stock inlet pipe, WOT is maxing at 8400hz on the MAF about 4.5k RPM and then leans out to 14AFR lol, usually up 8900hz, so tried fitting the box without the bottom in the mace box but no go. So the only other solution would be rigging up another pipe.
Was talking to a mate who said try UNI Filters, they make foam pod filters and there website says they filter down to 4 microns, apparently they use them at some of the mine sites where there is alot of bulldust.
There website is here.
http://www.uniflow.com.au/
Found this one here which will fit in the Mace Box and leave room to install the washer bottle as well, $65 doesn't sound bad.
http://www.uniflow.com.au/contents/en-us/p1790.html
Anyone used them? i know alot of oil foam filters are used in dusty environments from the factory.
Anyone know what microns the paper filters are?

Nothing like getting a lab report from roktex and it having a big green smiley face
Am guessing that a bad sample would be

I recon I will see fuel dilution.
after plugging the NVRAM equipped ECU in I smelled a huge difference in exhaust fumes from the previous memcal, this one smells far less rich that the original one which was an enriched one I have done years ago.

yes i think the oil foam filters are the only with good flow and trap dust.
I have heard however that some can deteriorate and fall apart and block the maf. However the UNI filers looks like it wont get this problem due to the inner filter part.
so how does it lean out? I thought with filter restrictions it will richen up due to less air?
