VT Ecotec V6 Engine Conversion Guide for Idiots

Post by 911jack »

It seems to me a lot of people are doing or would like to do conversions with the VT Ecotec V6 into other cars, I'm one of them. I've been looking through the threads and find that people are working on VT xdf files but its hard to find specific details on how to do things. I'm new to the delco ecm and probably a lot of other converters are as well. I have a willems programmer, desoldered eproms from the memcals and started using TunerPro RT which all takes time to learn. The first task of disabling the VATS is proving a challenge at this stage of the game. I thought this might be the place to expose some of the basic tasks required to make a conversion work.

I see a VT V6 Ecotec conversion requiring the motor, the ecu and the bcm from the donor car (maybe even the dash to get engine light functionality) and maybe the auto gearbox if not going to manual.

The VT auto is abundant and in my case, its going to a manual car, I have the ecm, bcm and dash. Mechanical issues and speed sensor issues aside, I see the following tasks in terms of the programming for a standard unmodified engine

1. Remove VATS
2. Change AUTO to Manual

Is it possible to have a set of bins derived from the originals but with the VATS removed and posted here or somewhere ?? This would make it a lot easier for newbies like me to get started.

In my case, I have a 2000 VT V6 with duel fuel using bin CNPN3202, the ecm is a 16233396 with CXWB label on the outside. And its going to a manual.

What is the manual bin I could use instead and can the VATS be removed, can anyone post one here. Is there a duel fuel manual bin ??

I know these can be bought from ebay, list members etc, but for such a common requirement when an engine swap is required having bins with VATS removed should allow the engine to start, this would be a great step to get people started and then more involved tunning can begin if required ....

This could also be the place for all the little tricks and tips to do the conversion, like modifying the harness to allow engine start when there is no auto in PARK, etc.

All feed back appreciated :D

check the VT xdf thread... the VT XDF has the VATs flag in it, so you'll need to pick one of the bins that the xdf is for, and then use tunerpro and the xdf to set the vats disable flag, and save the changes.

Thanks everyone for the help. Any chance of posting 2 bins where the extra one has the VATS turned off, it would help me to then try and recreate it in TunerPro, its all new to me and kick starts the learning curve.

check CJKWnovat.rar and CJKW1922.zip under the VT commodore section of the stock holden bins thread here https://pcmhacking.net/forums/view ... hp?f=7&t=3

The flag can be checked with yoda69's VT V6 V1.0 $A5C.zip XDF file in his thead here:
https://pcmhacking.net/forums/view ... 70&start=0

CJKW is a $A5 revisionc, also detailed in the above thread.
