ecotec with vn computer and loom

Post by 87 nav »

Hi im new to tuning with fuel injection(fiddled a bit with the efi on my vk but thats pritty basic)
Ive got a navara 4x4 which I want to put a holden v6 in. I was leaning towards the ecotec mainly because I already have one and I think there a better motor the the older v6
I also have a wiring loom and ecu of a s1 vn and was wondering if this combo would work and what els I might need to get it running

personally I don't like ecotecs because they seem to crack heads whereas the earlier motors don't, but aside from that you can totally run an ecotec off a vn loom and computer, main difference is coolant temp sensor change and fitting a MAT sensor.

Thanks for the reply. Never hered of them cracking head but ive spent most of my spare time trying to fit tracter turbos to 202s.ive got all the sencers for a vn with the loom was going to fit it to my vk for yhe turbo set up but at the time it se3med to hard so I stuck with the jetronic
back to the ecotec will I need to retune the vn computer for it to run right

it will run on the vn ecu but it will have a small flat spot in it at the start of the throttle and also the spark map is to far advanced in some areas so unless your running on 98 pertrol it will ping. holden202t has been kind enough to make a tune with 12p to run the ecotec on the vn 808 only problem i had with it was the accel enrichment need to be changed due to him having an exhaust system on his and mine bog stock

The 12P tune is here .. https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=375

You can also find 12P with all the files you need for editing and logging here .. https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=356

My utes fitted with a 2 1/2 exourst so that should be ok. Now ill try my best not to sound stupid if I run it on 98 octain will it fix all the pinging or just some of it and if not wats the best way to retune the ecu . Ive read threw the getting started section and like the idia of tuning live but not shoure how to get it all set up. If it had a dizzy and a barndoor for a afmeter id be fine but the softwere side of it loses me

that ecotec tune I made has two maps in it (switchable) which are for 98 octane fuel and also 91 octane fuel, so you should be able to use it that way and run whatever fuel you wish. I don't really know how well it works on other motors but would expect it will be plenty drivable and maybe just need some fine tuning for your specific setup.

forget about the jetronic afm dude that's so primitive and limiting :)

i'd suggest to get started get the motor in and working and then you can start thinking about logging and editing in realtime (or can be non-realtime too if you'd prefer)

VL400 sells all the hardware you'll need to make an 808 realtime tunable and that goes hand in hand with $12P tune so if you do want to have a go at realtime, look in the for sale section for the hardware you'll need.

But just to basically get started if you didn't want to realtime just yet, for a small fee find someone local or post a memcal to one of us and we can put the ecotec $12P tune on it for you which will be enough to get you going atleast.

you will need to fit the vn MAT Sensor into the manifold somewhere, also need the vn coolant sensor which will fit the ecotec thermostat housing with a brass adaptor, then you just need to fit the VN knock sensor, all the rest is pretty much a matter of re-routing the wiring loom and such.
