startup on standard tune?

Post by Another355 »

Anyone attempted to start a worked motor (304) I.e big hyd cam, More comp,On a standard tune? I imagine it wouldn't run like a dream. Anything I need to worry about? Don't want to lean out or cause any damage. I figured ill have to use the standard tune and try and go from there. I know I'm probably in too deep already but I got to learn Anyone been in the same boat as me? Any tips?

should be fine for a 30 minute cam runin .just remember to put the ecu in diagnostic mode while setting base timing and then turn off diagnostic mode to continue running it in or it will get pretty hot extractors from 10 degree timing.

Thank you delcowizzid that's a relief. Any tips or precautions for my first attempt at tuning/logging ? I've read every piece of info on this site and I'm still not confident. So any help from a pro is appreciated.

also it would be advisable to avoid rich run in as it will wash the bores and they will glaze.

Any one got tips for setting AFR quickly for initial run in?
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

shouldn't really need to adjust the afr too much it should be around stoich anyway, just start to dial in the VE table so your actual lambda matches the target lambda in the cells that you are hitting while it is running in.

would i be needing a wideband o2 sensor to dial in my VE table? Just curious but if i were to set it to closed loop would the map slowly work with me or would it just be too far out to begin with ?

Yeah I could be too far out to be able to adjust

You won't be able to tune it while running the cam in real well ... Realistically any serious tuning I do is with a wideband!!
