Hey all,

I have a 1990 Geo Storm GSi that I boosted using 91 Isuzu Impulse RS parts.

List of parts are

4XE1 1.6 DOHC (Geo Storm Block and Head)
Forged Pistons, Rods, & Crank
4XF1 1.8 DOHC Hydraulic Lifters, Cams, and Oil Control Valve
Thomas4Parts MLS Headgasket
IHI RHB5 Turbo, Manifold, Downpipe, and Top Mount Intercooler from Isuzu Impulse
Isuzu Impulse RS Engine Management (DELCO ECM, Coil Packs, Ignition Control Module)
Flywheel machined to 4XF1 specs for Larger Clutch.
Currently Running 10PSI

















Cold Side off of 87 Ford Thunderbird bolts directly on my turbo, almost doubles FLOW

I should receive my cable within the next week or so and will start trying to do some datalogging and see what I can figure out with this thing. I have never tried this before but after hours and hours of reading I think I may be able to accomplish something.

Im not sure if the Lotus Elan shares the DELCO Engine management or not but It does share the same engine and transmission as my car. If anyone has any information on those let me know. I have been told that I have a removable chip in my ECM as I am using the one from the Isuzu Impulse RS as it it Tuned for Boost. I never looked close enough to tell if it had a removable chip or not.

Nice project!

Theres an elan bin in the thread over here: https://pcmhacking.net/forums/view ... f=26&t=774

It does look similar to the delco stuff we know, but we dont have any definitions that will help you out. Its possible but your straight in the deep end trying to figure out locations in the bin and the datastream unfortunately.

I have used the search feature and have already downloaded that bin file. THANKS!

I am still learing the file extensions and other bit of information. I have downloaded a few different files but havent went through them all to see what they are or are not.

I will keep you guys posted as I progress (which may be slow). I have downloaded elanscan a tool for directly reading the Elan ECM which I believe to be the same or very similar to that of the Impulse RS / Geo Storm.

I am sure I will have many questions throughout the way but I will try to do some searching first.

If you guys have any ideas or tips just let me know!

I did some searching on AC Delco's Webiste and come up with this...


"ACDELCO Part # 88999205 {#16142013} Remanufactured"

The ecm is in my car at the moment but I may try to disassemble a GEO one to see whats inside...

Well I ripped apart the factory ecm from my Geo and it does not have any kind of removable chip in it. I pulled apart a spare ecm like I have in my car now (91 Isuzu IMpulse RS) and it does have the blue memcal chip in it.

Didnt forget about you guys. Still waiting on my converter to arrive from Good Ole China. As soon as its here Ill get the BIN file posted and we can go from there!

I received my cable tonight but only had about 20 minutes to mess with it. I hooked up the wires how I thought they should be but couldnt get the computer to receive any data.

In tunerpro RT it kept saying Hardware Not Connected, if I go into preference and set it to the correct comm port and test the cable it says that the cable is connected and working fine. I couldnt get it to communicate with the laptop but will do some more research later.

Any tips??

I think you might not have the right gear. You need an eprom reader and to read the chip directly. Tunerpro wont have support for reading it until we figure out how to and it to oseplugin (for tunerpro) https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=590 and/or the flashtool. https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=82

For eprom reader we recommend the gq-4x, but there are plenty of other options out there. You can make up a little adaptor board with some rows of pins and some vero board to plug the memcal direct in to the programmer, or get one here: https://pcmhacking.net/forums/view ... =14&t=1275
