holden hz 350 overlander conversion

Post by Dazza92VP »

hey guys just wondering if i use an 808 on this converison with an srx emulator to gain the high speed data will i have to repin the vn/vp loom to suit the vr wiring diagram or can i leave it as the vn/vp loom and just add in the 16 pin aldl port on the corresponding pins?
pin a9 is already aldl so thats ok but just use the ununsed pin a8 to pin 9 on the aldl connector.
wanting to do it this way as its a nice easy to get mounted port looks neater and dont have to go digging through the dash to get to the ecm everytime
cheers
Darren

edit
oh and the msd ignitions for the chevs are they reluctor or hall effect seems to look like its reluctor.

ok looks like i was looking at a different wiring diagram the pinout is exactly the same as the 808 just with the aldl on pins a8 and a9 so that answers that question as to the pinout problem. just the msd ignition now whether i use the v8 holden module or the camira one
always seem to do that post up and half an hour later answer my own question

I believe one of VL400's mates is using it on a MSD and was using the camera ignition module to interface it

There are chev dizzies (reluctor sensor) from an delco ECU injected models that will be the easiest wiring job (not sure how easy they are to find though). Some various modules here ... http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/GM_7pinHEI.htm

Can also use a camira style module, pictured in that link as the 8 pin model.

The MSD 6AL-2 works well with the Delco ECU

Also, A9 will be wired in both the VR and VN, its used to get the ECU in diagnostic mode (CEL flash). Will need to find a pin for ALDL, if you use a V6 loom and add the extra injector plugs can use pin B2 (cranking input, only used on V6) and move it to A8.

sweet so camira module it is then its already got a msd dissy fitted and repining to a8 is not a prob theres heaps of stuff to be removed from the wiring so im gonna have a few pins left over as its a v6 loom no aircon so on so fourth
also i just have to set the reference angle to 10degrees instead of 60degrees like the holden v8

ok so finally started on this conversion got the wiring loom run over top of the engine and the relay/fuse box mounted and the ecu mounted in above the glove box
now just got to wait for his bonus for this quater to come in and we order the intake, injectors, injector rail and other gear then we can get stuck into it properly
but for now once one of my mates finally sends me the connectors and stuff i need it will just run spark and thermo fans till we get the stuff

specs on the vehicle are

engine is bog stock except for a small cam with a holley 650 street avenger
th350 trans
unsure on torque converter
dana transfer box from jeep cj7
Amc 20 rear diff from jeep cj7
Dana35 front diff from jeep cj7
Steering linkage setup from jeep cj7
one tonner rear suspension with diff mounted on the bottom of the springs instead of ontop

still to get

a few connectors
edelbrock proflow xt efi manifold
edelbrock xt fuel rails
edelbock pico 29lb/hr @45psi injectors
tre performance high pressure pump
vpw 2.5l surge tank
and for now probably just a holden v8 throttle body till the next bonus were we will be getting the 90mm edelbrock throttle body that thankfully uses
the same tps and iac as the holden gear so easy plug and play

and what brand of lift pump does everone use still need to decide on that one. the high pressure pump is a 255LPH @ 13.5v 40psi so something thats going to keep up with that
oh and found out the distributor is not actually an msd dissy but a knock off skip white unit looks pretty much the same

so finally got the manifold, injectors , fuel rails and pumps and started setting everything up on thursday night may have lost time and got a disgruntled call from the missus at 1 in the morning. got all the old manifold off the engine setup the new manifold with the the rails and injectors mounted the low pressure pump and inline filter got half way through locking up the skipwhite distributor (thought it was an MSD one buts just an imitation one). then friday after work finished the distributor and tapped out the manifold to suit the MAT sensor but stuffed if i could find an m12x1.5 tap(went through at least 5 sets of tap and die kits in) to tap out the CTS reducing bush. thats were we're up to now gonna sell the old carby and that'll fund the new edelbrock 90mm throttle body. the reason i asked about the ls1 MAP sensor is because on the right side of the manifold at the back there's a mounting point designed for the ls1 MAPs and if i could use that would be a lot neater and one less vac line i have to worry about as far as i can tell it should work as its a 3 wire. ref, ground and signal and should be 0-5v
