DELCO NIGHTMARE..... :(

Post by Vpgts076 »

Hi Guy's

I recently installed my TPS wrong and smashed the internals....

The Car is a VN Group A which shares the same TPS as XF Falcon.

it also had a kalmaker tune.

Before TPS issue car was 110% ok.

I replaced it correctly on the test bench and it tested 110% okay.

The issue is the car is always now showing Code 14 & 15 Via the ADLS port and a laptop running EFILIVE.

14 Coolant sensor indicated a temperature above 130C for 3 seconds
after engine ran for 20 seconds. Probably a short
15 Coolant sensor indicated a temperature below -30C for 3 seconds
when MAT > - 13 or engine running over 1 minute. Probably open
circuit

The car also intermittently flashes up Code 21

21 Throttle pos sensor above 2.5 volts for 2 seconds when engine
speed below 1600 rpm

Now the confusion...

Engine light does not light up with code 14 & 15 but does flash up with code 21 intermittently.

TPS Is new but have noticed it may be sticking and have order a replacement.

ECU TEMP Sensor test within SPEC's.

I am leading to towards the following.

1. Initial TPS shorted +5v & Ground
2. This has damaged the ECU Temp sensor part as TPS and Temp share GND output at ECU

Thoughts?

Thanks
Daniel

I dont know the Kalmaker names but there are usually two flags for each code - one to say if the code needs to be processed (ie enable/disable it) and another that defines if it should cause a CEL or just be logged. Might need to check that the CEL flags are set if you want them displayed.

Have you tried clearing the fault codes and then capturing the moment the codes are set while logging it? Might give some clue if both TPS and coolant do weird things at the same time.

Sounds like the 5v reference and signal wires are reversed.

The coolant temp reading will vary if they are swapped, + the tps won't read right.

I would check the TPS wiring with a multimeter to see if it is wired correctly.

Can you reset Codes Via EFIlive or do I just need to use paper clip?

Thanks

I think I have it the right way does anybody have a diagram of coolant plug....

How can I test coolant sensor to confirm sensor isn't reversed?

The coolant sensor won't care polarity wise.

Can you monitor the coolant temp with efilive?

If so, connect to the car with the ignition on and check the temp, then move the TPS and check it again.

If you see a change, your tps is wired wrong.

Pretty sure efilive has a command to reset the codes for standard logging definitions, if not use a 12P ADX as its got a reset malfs command you can send from TunerPro. Or just disconnect the battery for a minute.

Thanks guys for all your help.

I changed ECU and its all fixed. Must of shorted it.....

One more Question, is it possible to read a kalmaker chip and change the rev limiter?

Thanks
