Hi guys
I'm using a standard 5L and manual from a VS series 3 ute going into my UC torana project.
I'm going for standard due to it's enuff HP for me, Wot I'm after is what mods i have to do to the computer systems to get it running in the ole girl.
I believe Vats is an issue, I have the complete harness and ECU and BCM, no key though.
I'm going for a falcon T5 box behind the 308 so it all fits nicely in the Torana.
Could anyone in Perth help with what i have to do, hearing different stories about limp mode, stalling and not running is a bit of a worry.
Can I use a VN ECU on the existing harness or......
Any help is greatly appreciated

If your not keeping the factory key and BCM you will need to disable VATS in the memcal. Other wise would need to get a key matched to the BCM you have and wire it all in.
Couple of replies here regarding the speed sensor .. http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3285
It will also need a memcal change and wiring change. Stalling issues wont happen providing you make these changes, they occur when there is no speed signal in to the PCM.
A VN ECU will not plug in to the existing harness, and will require a full tune if you did rewire it to suit the VN loom. Unless you think your going to want to play around with tuning then its not really worth the effort to change, just stick with the VS 3 setup.

Most VS series 3 V8's are the VT MAF engines.
What is the ECU service number?
Won't make a huge difference but will make sure you're given the correct information for your combination.

That's a MAF based ecu, same as used in VT's.
What is the 4 letter code on the chip or ecu sticker?
Will just need to check what xdf to use to disable VATS.

The 4 letter code is DJYM
As I'm new to this stuff I'm assuming ECU=PCM???
I don't think a BCM came with the motor either, I'm working away ATM so i will have another look when home.

Essentially ECU an PCM is the same. ECU is Engine Control Unit and PCM is Powertrain Control Unit. The name change is because the PCM also manages the gearbox (mainly for autos).

Looking at the memcal ID tool there is a CJYM for VS Series 3, is listed as being recalled and to use DRRT.
Unfortunately no DRRT in the ID tool, but there is DRRR which is the 195kw tune from the HSV's, could use that and a $A6F xdf should get you going.

I had the stock DRRR bin/tune running on my old stock VT S1 V8 roller with VS series 3 loom with no problems at all.
