Vs ecotec engine conversion auto manual

Post by Dec_head »

Anyone know what the differences are in v6 vs auto and manual ecm's ? seems some have the same service numbers
I want to run an ecotech on it's own without the auto trans in another car using the auto computer can i use a manual bin and disable vats or will i get error codes from speed sensor etc

you will still get codes for VSS etc, you would need to run some sort of VSS to get it to run nicely anyway

some manual PCM's dont have all the circuitry for both types of VSS, i have a pic somewhere that shows what is needed to make them work

Ok so the auto computer won't be a problem just need that diagram and a vss vats turned off ?
I am guessing the vss plays a role in the timing fuel map equation surely their must be a way around it for use in cars with an old cable speedo setup.

yeah on a manual on the pre-ecotec tunes, VSS is pretty much just for lean cruise and decel fuel cut off. cant say exactly on the ecotecs, havent tried one without it.

I can't find anything to do with the vss in tunerpro i am using the 1699728 ver2 vs v6 xdf anyone know exactly how to get rid of it so it doesn't cause fault codes or engine light when not connected

Ok i found some info on the manual option hex addresses and added it to the xdf it is supposed to allow you to change auto bins to manual for either t5 or gertrag can anyone test it and see if it works i still need vss info.

Have a look at this:

From Dr' Bob's site the Service PN for both Auto and Manual in general is 16199728, if you have this ecu you may be OK.

http://www.kalmaker.com.au/phpbb3/viewt ... ?f=2&t=834

Below is copied from the Kalmaker forum (http://www.kalmaker.com.au/phpbb3/viewt ... ?f=2&t=834) and explains how to change the wiring.
"Your auto harness can easily be modifyied to suit. Simply reveal auto trans and existing vss wiring, and remove all but the pink wire with blue stripe (auto trans power), and retain the existing 2 vss wires (blue and tan). These become your 3 wire hall effect wiring which are, pink/blue stripe=12v ignition, blue = speed signal to D2, tan = Ground., So remove the blue and tan wires from PCM plugs, relocate blue to D2, and splice tan into Earth wires at PCM. Also remove speed output to speedo from PCM (purple/white stripe) and splice into imput at D2."

About the only other thing to know is whether it is a T5 or Getrag 5 speed and select the appropriate calibration to start with, refer Dr Bob's memcal site http://www.memcals.com/rcc_info_memcals.html

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the info.
I get the following in firefox when going to memcals.com

This web site at http://www.memcals.com has been reported as an attack site and has been blocked based on your security preferences
Advisory provided by Google.

seems ok in IE.

I am not lucky I have the 16210672 pcm and that is all I can find at the wreckers where I am.
