do you have any radio accessories or anything like that on the bus? You can try pulling fuses for anything that uses the bus including radio etc.

Just a thought will the LS1 Flashtool software work with a Tech2 as a pass through device?

No, it only speaks AVT interface protocol.

I did some logging on the LB7 with the AVT cable, and it appears that the following chatter is occurring:

COM port initialized and opened.
--> 05 00 08 FF 29 03
--> 05 00 E8 FF 40 03
--> 05 00 E8 FF 60 03
--> 06 00 88 25 29 07 00
--> 05 00 E8 FF 58 03
--> 06 00 88 25 29 07 00
--> 05 00 08 FF 10 03
--> 05 00 08 FF 29 03
--> 05 00 E8 FF 40 03
--> 05 00 E8 FF 60 03
--> 06 00 88 25 29 07 00
--> 05 00 E8 FF 58 03
--> 07 00 8A EA 29 20 95 00
--> 07 00 AA EB 60 20 95 00
--> 05 00 08 FF 10 03
--> 06 00 88 25 29 07 00
--> 05 00 08 FF 29 03
--> 05 00 E8 FF 40 03
--> 05 00 E8 FF 60 03
--> 07 00 8A EA 29 20 A7 00
--> 07 00 AA EB 60 20 A7 00
--> 05 00 E8 FF 58 03

keeps repeating

So it looks to me like the following nodes are issuing "I'm here" messages.

10 - ECU
29 - ABS
40 - Body Control Module
58 - restraints
60 - DIC

So I'm looking at unplugging the ABS, and BCM. But I have no idea if that's going to cause other issues....

Also, does anyone know what functional groups EA and EB are?

Thanks!

Maybe try sending $6C,$FE,$F1,$28,$00 and try to log again, whatever nodes are still sending chatter are the problem. Then try to disable any of the controllers still talking, "$6C,$@@$F1,$28,$00" just replace @@ with 40 for BCM. Check chatter again...

I'll put in an advanced mode text box where you can put things to transmit one per line, and it'll display the response. That should be enough for you guys with duramax to test a few things.

Durahax, thanks! I'll try that as soon as I'm back where the truck is this weekend.

Antus, That would be sweet! I've tried to do this by switching between apps (hexterm and LS1 flash), but I think something may be happening between because I've gotten some AVT cable errors when switching back to hexterm from LS1 flash.

Consider adding the 96/97 "blackbox" ecm Tunercat is the only one to support it as of now, so the AVT interface should be fine.
Any way to help with the project in general via donations perhaps? If you need blackbox support help I would love to help any way I can, and am willing to buy a spare and send it over to you.

Thanks so much for the work you have put in so far. The community desperately needs a strictly read write tool for a decent price, and the avt interface seems the way to go.

Thanks for the support. Im a bit short on time a the moment. between the day job and picking up this sites nvram products I havnt had time to look at this for a while. Hopefully when things settle down a bit I'll be able to get back to it.

I believe a prominent member at thirdgen.org has a project in the works for black box on avt, but I cant give any details.

Shoot, have him roll it into your software, be able to cover all GM OBD2 ecms up untill CAN stuff as far as I know.
That would be quite the tool.
If there is anything I can do feel free to ask.
