Thanks guys you have been a massive help!!
So the BWPK has the fault codes for the auto turned off already??
So the other part i mentioned about the check engine light. If i have the auto fault codes turned off and i have a vss, is there a way to wire in my check engine light to bring up engine faults??

Re: Standalone VS engine (Hilux conversion)
check engine light will flash up codes when the diagnotic link is bridged.
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

To connect the engine light, one side of the globe goes to positive that comes alive with key on and the other goes to terminal f6 on the pcm.
From memory it is a brown wire with a white trace and the end of it is in the multi pin plug that is just back from the pcm plugs.
The pink wire that you need to turn on the pcm is in the same plug along with the black/white that you wire to the diagnostic link.

Re: Standalone VS engine (Hilux conversion)
Can someone confirm if this will work??
I'm going to use a auto PCM with a Getrag memcal and the VATS removed and adapt the auto gearbox Speed sensor to run on the T5 (as the getrag and auto had the same sensor??)

auto/getrag speed sensor is the same, T5 speed sensor is different, you can run any tune on a VS computer but an auto computer wont run a T5 speed sensor as it's missing components as per before. I have auto computers which i have added the missing components and fully tested to run a T5 sensor if you want one.

That would be awesome. reckon you could do it with a memcal as well and send it over as i'm in NZ

Sorry for the old thread dig.Jayme wrote:the speed signal to the computer has only one job on a manual... if you have the throttle blade closed and car is not moving, it will go into idle mode and adjust idle stepper motor to acheive desired idle RPM. if throttle blade is shut and you are moving (EG shifting down gears and engine braking) it will not go into idle mode and adjust the stepper.
if you do a conversion and skip the speed sensor, then when engine braking the engine will go into idle mode and close the Idle stepper motor to try to bring the revs down... when it is all the way shut and you touch the clutch the engine stalls. the solution as mentioned above is to wind in the throttle stop screw till this stops happening... when it gets to the point that it doesnt stall even when the Idle stepper is all the way shut, then the problem is Moot and you dont need the speed sender. ive run a few engines with no speed sensor and they are fine.
Is this right about the VSS signal to the computer only having one job on a manual ?
If I do get its VSS to cable speedo adapter to work on my manual 4WD Hilux / VT V6 conversion, will it basically do nothing for the tune ?
Cheers

It does more than just the idle speed.
Also allows certain feature to enable at certain speeds, like VE learn, lean cruise, tip in/out bump spark etc... pretty sure there is even more VSS dependent features but these are just ones I remember off the top of my head.
Oh and the cooling fan enable has a min speed too.

Re: Standalone VS engine (Hilux conversion)
yeah there are a few things it controls, but if you didnt know the speed sensor was disconnected, most people wouldnt notice. that being said, its still best to try your hardest to get the sensor working. if you need to drive, it then its not going to be that big of a big deal to leave it disconnected.
the cooling fan enable isnt a min speed. its a max speed, eg: it turns the fan off over 60k's as the natural airspeed is faster than the fan anyway.
