Re: The1's Daily
I would suggest if a buick one is working properly it shouldn't need any on the bolt head either, that said, it can't hurt!
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: The1's Daily
its as per holden factory instructions. because around the holes are the most prone arears to leak. 1st port of call is the bolt holes for the oil.
also oil can get up the thread where the threads go all the way through. Flange sealer is used on that as well as on the thread. holden specify loctite 515
is may be a little different on ecotec but its worth doing. its worth sealing everything, threads and all possible join and matting surfaces. The appropriate sealer must be used though. none of that RTV shit lol.

Re: The1's Daily
For Ecotec, Holden just specify some permatex on the seal, then torque bolts up, also check this, the VT sump doesn't even have rear bolts, but you can see where the holes normally are.

Re: The1's Daily
if the holes are in the block I'd be drilling and using them

Re: The1's Daily
they go into the rear main housing if you wanted to drill and use them just change that rear housing over to the earlier type

Re: The1's Daily
O ring? when did they have those? mine all have an aluminum gasket with intergrated o ring seal thingy. Oh and rear bolts too.
one is VT and the other is VY, both have the aluminium gasket.

Re: The1's Daily
there was no alloy gasket on this one which is from VT, the sump is VT as the side supports are shorter than my VS sump, yeh could drill the holes to use the extra bolts but ill be using my vs sump on this one anyway
Re: The1's Daily
VS and early VT use the o-ring. Later models use a gasket

Re: The1's Daily
that doesn't make sense, the motor i put into my torana was from a VS and it had the metal gasket with rubber seal, and i believe it can't have been a VT motor cause it had no EGR on it ??ejukated wrote:VS and early VT use the o-ring. Later models use a gasket
unless its had a pan replaced at some stage in its life.
