Video Encoding & where to get good movies

Post by VX L67 Getrag »

One of my hobbies for years now has been encoding videos & recording tv shows to then edit & keep copies for my files.

I've never been able to get files perfect like you can download & same bitrate & file size!

So finally having a couple of good PC's to encode with I got accepted into a group to encode & upload & find out how it all happens!

It's pretty amazing really a direct BluRay rip thats 25+ gigabytes down to 2 gigabytes & still in 1080p format & no pixelation or weird images & still having subs & chapters!

Anyway here's a link to the group & some of my & other's uploads!

Pretty cool stuff there!

Been a while since I updated this, now more doing it just for my own collection!

But wondering if anyone has any experiance in encoding & how to get audio/video sync 100% spot on?

When encoding blu rays it doesn't seem to be an issue AT ALL, but when working with dvd rips or even stuff recorded on the PVR the audio goes out & needs to be delayed or sped up, the merge program I use allows it but I can never figure out which 1 is RIGHT.

I can get it to around 15ms & cant figure out which way it's out or what version is best, not sure whether it's just my brain not working right or what, but I like things to be right & can't seem to get it 100%

Any ideas would be appreciated!

I found the same with PRV and was told I needed a faster PC. I have a much faster one now and the same problem so I gave up. What is on your forum? I looked and you must be registered to view.

Nah it's got nothing to do with pc speed, I encode with 3 different oc'd q4 but if it were that it would struggle more with bluray's.
There's got to be a software or something to show both audio & video in slow motion to get 100% lined up!
Some dvd's need anywhere from -200ms to +500ms audio delay to get back in sync!

That site just has a group of encoders that release various things but most can be found on kick ass torrents with just doing thumperdc in search!

mplayer / mencoder do a very good job, but its command line linux stuff. You can get windows ports of it, but its probably not what you want. I think you likely need to try different software, it should 'just work' (even though thats often not the case).

Ive heard good things about handbrake on windows. http://handbrake.fr/

Yeah thats like a 1 click encoding process & how I started for the first 10 years!

But you really need to strip audio & video separately & recode & then merge them back together for best quality at lowest size!

But yeah for a 1 click solution handbrake & AVS video convertor but cant get normal res with low bitrate & low size at great quality like stripping & recode!

But seems strange exact same process with different recorded or rip quality throws the audio out!
