yeah dont put antifreeze in untill the engines done a few km and the head gaskets have stuck good and proper

head gaskets? I never touched them lol. in fact never ever had to on any holden.

I would wait until everything was up and running to add the antifreeze. make sure it's leak proof and functioning. Then drain it down and put it in.

I haven't put it in yet, but I did test it on the stand, its water tight for sure

Done a bit of work today! Front end is all together except the rack is left loose and tie rods not attached until I have the extractors fitted.

couldn't get a pic of the work as the crap phone camera won't see anything at this time of the year, too dark.

Will try tomorrow with a spot light lol


Did this over the last couple of days.

When i removed the bolts off the shifter the threads were galled to the alloy and ripped all the threads clean out with the old m8 bolts.

So I ordered some step studs from the good old US of A. Made a jig in order to drill straight and in the same jig I also had a straight guide for the m10 x 1.5 tap as well.

end result, pretty happy with that repair, and since the studs will be permanent I won't have to worry about stripping the soft alloy again.

while I was at ordering the studs, I also got shifter boots from the US as well. When I did my VP manual conversion about 4 or 5 years ago, you could not get these boots anywhere. None of the transmission places that did T5 in oz could get them, NLA from holden.

So I ended up using mustang ones from the state. When I look now, looks like people have caught on basically to what I worked out back then and are buying them from the states too. There are ebay stores in the US that list them for holden as they must be popular replacement boot now days.

So I did that. bought these from the states listed as Holden and ford replacement boot as well as other yanky tanks.

Damn! these are fantastic quality! The rubber is real good and more ribs compared to the factory one and that makes it more flexible in comparison. Fits like a glove.

Nice work, the step studs solved the problem nicely without needing to helicoil it.

I have a question if anyone had experience with it?

Is there much to be gained on a stock pre ecotec with decent exhaust with VE redone, and spark done on the dyno with 98 RON fuel?

I would imagine somewhat considering the VR has 9:1 CR

even with a stock exhaust you can still get fair gains out of them with just removing "granny spec tune" and its only going to be more with an exhaust.

I can only imagine. my VP with pacemakers got a good boost of torque down low, from about idle in fact. I didn't even tune it at all.

I know the ecotec have great gains, but never really seen anyone mention gains to be had in pre ecotec.

So its mainly spark thats the issue in "granny spec" tune? are the AFR tables ok in stock form or can that gain some as well?

ok, we should see some handling here... well once I get rid of the bob jane tyres. I have learned one thing, bob jane are the worst tyre on the market for grip. 0! grip in the rain, virtually none in the dry as well. I can light up my tyres at 100km/h moderately accelerating in 4th and 3rd when even the slightest moisture on the road, that is with my clapped out VP which doesn't have much power. In the dry it will do a little burnout going into 2nd when taking off at lights.

So yeah, definitely getting rid of these tyres, I don't want to die!
