Increased cranking with CAI fitted
Hi Guys,
Since fitting a CAI on the missus Calais I have noticed that it takes longer for the car to start, previously it started as soon as you flicked the key. Thinking back, I have noticed the same thing on a few other cars fitted with CAI's as well.
I'm thinking that I may have to increase the cranking PW a bit to compensate?

Can't see how it would make a difference.
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

Not sure TBH, it's the only mod on the car other than the 69mm TB and it has only started doing it since fitting the CAI.
Re: Increased cranking with CAI fitted
the two times ive seen v6's taking a long time to start it was because of the fuel pump... I put a pressure guage on and when it primed it would slowly come up and as soon as priming stopped it dropped back to zero then when you started cranking it woudl crank until the fuel pressure got to about 30psi then it would fire. both times replace fuel pump fixed the issue.
just something to look into .... itd be a bit of a conincidence but something to think about.

It's not really taking a long time to start as such, it's just taking a bit longer than it used to and it used to fire as soon as you flicked the key to start previously. I didn't really think much off it until I started thinking about other cars I have fitted the same CAI to and having a similar effect.
I think the fuel rail does have a schrader type valve fitting, should be able to rig up a fuel pressure gauge to double check things though.

yeah the check valve in the pump stuffs up. pretty common problem with poor quality fuel these days.
leaking injectors will cause a hard start situation, but that is only if left warm for about 30min-1 hour and then try to start. And that requires 10-30sec of cranking to get it to fire.
to me, sounds like check valve.

Re: Increased cranking with CAI fitted
It's certainly not taking 10-30 seconds to start. It's only marginally longer.
The old VS V6 had a dodgy check valve and that wasn't too bad to start but took longer than this car.
