VP auto ecu runnkng VR s2 engine in 5sp hilux surf

Post by VrSurf »

hey everyone!
im new here, had a look around the site but couldnt really find an answer..
i have a 94 hilux surf with a VR s2 v6 running off a VP auto ecu..
it doesnt like starting without throttle and uses alot of petrol, do i need to retune ecu to run as a manual and if so do i tune as a vp or vr setup? once the car is moving it seems to run ok its just initial start up and fuel consumptiom. gear changing is abit 'jerky' too.. any help is appreciated

have you cut pin b10 on the vp auto loom as this is how it determines if its an auto or manual could account for jerky throttle and a little of the due consumption also a tune wouldnt hurt as the vr engine runs a higher compression compared to the vp as well as a slightly different cam

cheers for the quick reply! i shall check that b10 wire when i get the chance i assumed it had already been cut or it wouldnt start at all? it does feel like the computer still thinks its an auto though, sometimes it holds revs around 2000 inbetween gear changes..

itll start with that wire my vp did for 2 years before i found out when the ecu powers up it just sense that wire if its grounded it thinks it auto open circuit its manual.

so just find it off the back of the ecu and cut it and tape the end off? my pinout diagram has it listed as a grey wire? also what about the a7 pinout (torque converter clutch control) should i cut that too? surely its not needed in a manual?

thats the one the grey wire. you wont have worry about the TCC wiring it can stay connected in the wiring loom but it will go no were most likely to the plug just under the dash and stop

ok i found 2 grey wires one is 5volt reference output and the other park/neutral switch, one goes into the 'bigger' plug in to ecu and the other goes into the little plug in.. so i dunno which one to cut? and should i cut the wire or remove the whole pin altogether?

the one you want is in the smaller 24 pin connector just cut it a little bit up the loom and tape it off. you may find you may need that pin some were else later on especially if your going to put a wide band into it for tuning
