On Vista try right clicking the installer and choosing run as administrator to see if that makes a difference.

I connected the laptop this morning & it found the logger. Clock is set, engine started & showing live view

Amazing stuff! I was recently considering doing something quite similar to this but with an end goal of having a flashy front end on a 7" display to replace the standard dash cluster in a vn crumbledoor ; )
Was there any further development with these or are they still available?
If I can figure out the version I origionally contemplated, being a raspberri pi (model b has ethernet, hdmi and usb) and a 7" touch display. there are linux disto's available to run off them (via sd card) and had wondered about even having some sort of tuning program on there that can do most of what TP does in windows. I have some basic knowledge about electronics (made a few jaycar kits lol) as for programming I only have a limited amount of experience (made a basic web browser) but I am pretty keen to learn more

Yes, there is a V2 thats available now: http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3540

From my experience with linux, achieving 8192 baud is the hard part. It looks like the linux serial API only takes defined values of the normal / traditional speeds at the driver level so you cant just send 8192 as an integer, even to an 8192 baud device. Some devices accept a divider but its per device and not standardised with little documentation. I even looked at the wine source code (since I know windows can do it) but that didnt really help. The serial API in linux is pretty archaic. If its been updated since I last looked and you can prove me wrong do say so. IMHO your probably better off writing code on bare metal hardware. But then of course you loose the graphical API and video drivers. Maybe we need to replace the FTDI kernel driver. Yuck. Having said that, ALDLDroid works on android, and thats linux kernel... so there must be away.

hahahaha

I actually noticed when I was racing at the hillclimb (mine normally sits on the floor beside my seat) that when I was cornering the logger went flying across the passenger floor back and forth ... VL400 has it now, im sure he's noticed the scratches on the bottom of the case .... needless to say it was solid as except some of the bumps knocked the SD card out and so hence log just stops!

yeah they are handy if you don't need to realtime change and just want to see whats happening and change afterwards type of thing.
