yeah I guess if its open right up all the time the exhaust gases would get it pretty hot compared to a larger one thats only opens a little to waste the same volume of gas.
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

well we are at the point that a 38mm isnt flowing enough so a bigger gate should free up some hp and yes not be fully open with boost gushing out at full gate size

I wasn't thinking fully open so much for the heat but more that there is a larger area for the heat to dissipate through, especially if its anything like a valve in the motor, it uses the seat to get heat out of the valve and into the head ....

obviously 3 minute burnouts will not be helping this process if the gates constantly open :P

the only difference I have seen is the black carby EST motors have a dowel on the cranks to locate the flex plate, otherwise all blue/black cranks are the same....

the dowel can be ground flat or pulled out or left in if your using the same flex plate on it ....

ps. I didn't know the "old" I assume you mean red cranks were different ? as far as I am aware other than what I said above the cranks were the same ..... except for the earlier ones with different rear main seals and journal sizes.

also the timing covers and balancers have to match, timing marks are different, but just use all blue/black parts and you'll be right.

so whats happening with this re-fresh ? putting some new dished pistons in it ?

rings and bearings turbo cam no extras might get some springs if they measure up too low.motor was on LPG and the valves are way up in the seats so head off old engine gets swapped over

be careful if your going to stick with the standard pistons, that's a recipe for disaster!

standard or new hypertechs be just as strong as each other i thought.wont be reved to hard.case of using what we got.will have copper headgaskets and studs this time poor bottomend.found it was pot 3 out the side this time which happens to be the cylinder feed directly behind the TB guess im going even richer again this time to compensate.pistons all clean not a hint of det on the tops of any.also going to just drop 2 heat ranges in plugs incase we just glowed one and preignited its still got 6's in it and really with the amount of timing in it it shouldnt have popped im sure it has the wrong timing cover/balancer combo cause it was 10 retarded when i confirmed tdc probably lucky to have 8-10 degrees of timing in reality under boost and didnt have take off torque when you let the clutch out
