Im helping a mate with a T56 conversion in his 355 VK Commodore Calais (digital cluster)
Current set up is a Toyota Supra 5 speed with hall efect transducer. This works well with the factory speedo and 808 running 12P.
The T56 runs an inductive speed signal.
On the later commodores like VR VS the factory speedo is compatible with both signals if im correct.
EG, VR commodore factory auto gives an inductive signal and goes straight to the dash.
Convert to factory T5 with hall effect and speedo still works, no mods.
I have not tried it yet but does anyone know if the VK digital cluster would take the pulse from the T56 inductive signal?
There is many ways to get a hall effect signal from the T56. Malwood wants a LOT of money to fit T5 internals to the extension housing to take a standard commodore transducer. Ideal set up though just change out the drive gear to correct the speedo.
Electronic box's that convert the signal and also the pulse rate. Great pieces of gear but id rather not run one. Also quite expensive and i ran one years ago and it was very unreliable.
So i then thought if the VK speedo would work like the VR VS type and take either signal, i would wire that in, convert to a VR auto 424 PCM and wait for the $11P release and re tune to suit. Then run a Jaycar pulse corrector box which are very cheap.
Any thoughts or opinions appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Commodore Speedo
The V6 and Series 3 V8 VS input the relluctor signal into the PCM (pin D2 from memory?) then the PCM puts out a hall effect (or compatible) signal on a different pin for the speedo. Probably not much use on an 808 and 12P, and I don't know much about 11P and the 424.

Re: Commodore Speedo
Thanks mate. On the other model VR VS the speed signal goes to the ecu and the speedo straight from the transducer.
Not output from the ecu. They are in parallel. I'm not sure if the cluster does anything with the signal to make it compatible the both the auto (inductive) and the manual (hall effect)
Im hoping the VK Calais is the same.

The VR auto's and VS V8 auto using a '424 PCM has the reluctor/inductive signal going to the PCM. It does a divide by 10 conversion to a square wave and sends that signal out another pin to the dash. The divide by 10 is not configurable, well if it is I have not found the code that does it yet!

Well i never knew that! I was sure it was in parallel just like the manual's. That will teach me for assuming!
So that could work really well for me then. Connect the T56 signal to the 424 ecu then the square wave output from C12 to the dash speedo.
Then if the pulse needs to be changed to get an accurate reading use the $39 jaycar pulse corrector?

Getting a bit hazzy on this but pretty sure the divide by 10 is configurable. We were playing with this ten years ago. Its not in the calibration section, think we were changing the code in the OS.VL400 wrote:The VR auto's and VS V8 auto using a '424 PCM has the reluctor/inductive signal going to the PCM. If we went this way would $11P be compatible with the manual gear box?Dylan wrote:Well i never knew that! I was sure it was in parallel just like the manual's. That will teach me for assuming!

I've heard of people flagging faults etc but not sure how successful this is?
Maybe 11P will have a manual flag option?

Re: Commodore Speedo
There is no manual flag in 11P, its on the list though.
If it was my car I would just run a speedo corrector that accepts reluctor in and square wave out (the jaycar one does this, used one years ago on a VK calais conversion and worked fine). Then wire it to the '808 and speedo.

Is this model capable of that it doesnt state it. Marks4x4.com.au has one for $200 with that feature.
