anyways back onto my subject :P

made a nice template the other day for the brake conversion, I have since started to mark out and cut the 10mm steel plate, but its little more than the outside shape at the moment.

I really can't do much more till I get my hubs back from being machined, so yeah that's about it really!

the main difference from the above template is I plan to tap the thread into the steel plate and put the bolts through from the rear, but other than that will be basically the same.

hows this one ?
adaptor1.jpg
i put the drill press on the lowest speed and kept the oil up to it! seemed to work really well just had to be patient :) if it was like 1-2mm bigger it would have located on the stub perfectly but nothing some filing couldn't fix!
adaptor2.jpg
so after all the filing i got it on there and located it to get some holes drilled and then tapped for the stock bolts to fit through!! some washers and then cutting the bolts to length and i'm sorted in that regard, just need to trim it a bit on the caliper mounting tab aswell as machining a slight bit more off the hub then i can fit it all up and work out the exact location for the caliper mounting!

so while i was at it i decided to fit up a wheel from the donor VS Commodore .... i am actually surprised at how well that wheel suits a bedford :) its also sitting slightly inward to the original wheels, so im pretty happy with that cause i reckon the originals sat out too far!

Almost looks factory.

thanks! maybe I should sit them all out in the rain for a few days so it rusts up like the rest of the van, then it will be totally factory looking!!

ok, so got my hubs machined and then needed some more off them, so got that done and got them back now, so i was able to fit it all up as it will sit ...

so these pics just show the machining on the end of the hub to get it to fit inside the adaptor nicely, i am thinking i'll put a chamfer on the edge of the adaptor just for added clearance but other than that it all fits nicely .... mind you i put the adaptor on backwards so never mind that!

i am also looking at DBA catalogues to see if there happened to be a 300mm disc which had a slightly narrower depth which would mean maybe getting it to fit on without having to use spacers behind the adaptor plate, at this point in time its looking like there is nothing thats going to be any better than what i have now.

so yeah slow but good progress!

on the subject of braking. My vr has standard brakes other than QFM pads and slotted front rotors. its got scary brakes, about 3 times as good as the vp with the same brakes other than later MC and dual diaphragm booster.

its only done 150km on the pads and pulled 1.44g on the braking test on concrete during the RWC

I watch from the outside, car looked like it was going to flip ass over and stopped damn quick, left 4 black lines with 235s.

I wonder why its so good over the VP? the MC and dual diaphragm booster? I pulls up as good as any new car, I am very impressed.

So I gather VT calipers with VR/VS dual booster and late VR/VS 1" MC, brakes would be lethal :D
