Re: Bedford CF Van
yeah, phone ran out of credits. Im keen.
My plan was for late VR or VS 1", VH512 booster, have that already, braided lines, DBA T2 VT rotors (have those), VT calipers, QFM pads all round. all in a VP with full vlad's magic suspension list of must haves.
2Gs? 2.5Gs? why not. F1 only 3 Gs

Re: Bedford CF Van
it just so happens my QFM pads turned up today for the VT Calipers
your VR prooves what i know of VR/VS brakes, my guess is if they arn't real flash on a given car then there is something wrong with them!
the only car i've driven that was shit was a VS statesman with a small converter and 286 cam, it needed to idle so high over a stocker and it pretty much pushed from about 40km's to stop!
then in the case of my torana with VR/VS brakes, it had good pads (the HX ones also) and slotted and drilled rotors plus the same on the rear, and all in a 1240kg car .... so yeah it did pull up awesome

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: Bedford CF Van
Hi holden202t I was a bit out on my axle measurement as I have one at work atm so I checked the difference.
Rh side axle is 870mm in length.
Lh axle is 775. So there is a 95mm difference.
Hope this helps,cheers vs ss.

Re: Bedford CF Van
Made some heaps good progress the other day
I feel like the hard part is over hehehe copying the plate for the second one will be easy now the first one is all worked out and the hubs are all sorted etc.
so obviously need to tidy up the left hand edge into a nice smooth curve, I can do that now I have the caliper holes worked out.
had to grind lightly on the stub axle to get it all to fit in but all works really well
hubs machined to suit and all fitted up with the right bearings etc.
as you can see the caliper is very close to the stub axle, but didn't require any modifications.
looks factory especially with the rusty disc to match the crossmembers rust lol! these brakes actually look pretty small on the van compared to when I put the same brakes on the Gemini!!
all fits nicely under a 15 inch commodore rim!!
this is the commodore wheel offset compared to the guard sits in just nicely and as you can see in the picture further down the Bedford wheel sits out a bit too far for the guard.
Bedford wheel offset - im not sure how much of this difference is the rim and how much is the brakes, but I will measure that one day!
so as you can imagine I'm very happy with the results and hoping the engineer is similarly happy!

Wow, excellent work as always!!
Neat conversion in the end without needing many mods to parts - spares are much easier to fit if ever needed

Re: Bedford CF Van
well at this stage its a mostly stock motor, has flatties and higher comp, ported heads, but stock cam, I plan to get it engineered/registered as it is then worry about it, but I would like to really just replace the cam with a tow cam and suitable converter (as I don't have one at all for it) and see how it goes .... failing that being enough grunt then I might look at sourcing a VT block for a 355 or something .... but its going to be for towing my race car so tow cams, small converters and highway gears!
that said the Bedford should end up about the same weight as a V8 commodore so its going to be quite reasonable I reckon!

Re: Bedford CF Van
nice big update today
so the wifes studio is completed to a stage where she is working on it without needing my assistance, so got a bit of time to do some bedford action
i got the brake adaptors sorted, and fitted to both sides, so pretty happy to have them all finally done and on! so i then moved on to the next thing, which the plan was to remove the motor/gearbox/crossmember and while it was all out, rebuild the gearbox, get a suitable converter for it, fit the dipstick to the motor (couldn't do it easily in the car as i had to bend the pipe to suit), finish welding up the engine mounts and re-enforce the floor where its been cut so once it all goes back in hopefully there will be no reason for it to come out again!
so before i did that i cut out and/or marked the floor around the motor where it needs to be cut to, then i can finish trimming once the motors out and re-enforce it.
i've also only had the engine mounts just tack welded in place, so i have been busy with finishing the welds off on them, i have also made up a plate to go on the inside of it to add some strength and i might add one or two more gussets yet
you can see in one of the pics the new plate on the inside of the mounts, the mounts are also approx 2 inchs rearward of stock locations to suit the 5ltr motor.
hopefully this weekend i'll be getting some steel which i'll be able to make engine hole re-enforcements and also start making some mounts for the commodore seats!
