What sort of life are you getting from your LM1 O2 sensors? The 1st sensor lasted about 3 to 4 years but I'm only getting about 12 months out of them now mainly running with methanol as a fuel.VL400 wrote:Wow it would be nice to get my MTX-L so usable. Might need to pull it to bits and see what is going on inside.
Have got a spartan on the way now, so will have a direct compare with an LM1 and two MTX-Ls![]()
My understanding of the MTX-L is it is very similar to an LC2 as far as the wideband and analog output circuits go. The LM1 and LC1 used a proper DAC output, MTX-L and LC2 are just a filtered PWM output. This is common on many wideband controllers though, the spartan is the same.

Re: Toyota Powered VL Calais
mine normally break .... one from a mate dropping it, but I have had a few years out of them when they don't break!
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: Toyota Powered VL Calais
Am still using the original sensor, it was daily driven for about 2 years but for the last 5 or so the LM1 is my portable rig using either the Innovate clamp or exhaust bungs if fitted. I run the sensor in another daily every so often to make sure its still accurate, responding quickly and to burn off any carbon. Its life has been mostly pump fuel though, only the odd bit of avgas early on. Its nearly time to retire it though, half the thread is missingv6bucket wrote:What sort of life are you getting from your LM1 O2 sensors? Re: Toyota Powered VL Calais
i just bought a spare as i had to start using the spare with 3 threads on it.its like new but that thread could dissappear anytime.ive been through a couple but allways in turbo downpipes at rich mixes and on avgas .they reckon about 50 hours on avgas before they start dieing.i also run them in some pretty bangey cammed cars must give them a hard time .
If Its Got Gas Or Ass Count Me In.if it cant be fixed with a hammer you have an electrical problem
Re: Toyota Powered VL Calais
this is why lsu4.9 was invented.... they arent as precious as 4.2 and last waaaaaay longer since they dont have a sealed cell as a reference that breaks or leaks. techedge sells a cheapish lsu4.9 unit.

Re: Toyota Powered VL Calais
the lsu4.2 should last a minimum of 100000km in a well tuned car with a decient controller they run them OEM on a lot of vehicles and they can last longer than that LOL. extreme egts from low timing and real rich mixtures while getting a tune inline definately isnt nice on them when the gauge is pegged full rich drowning the sensor.

Re: Toyota Powered VL Calais
my lsu4.2 has lasted going on 6 years with all the abuse in the world from rich running turbos, left unpowered accidentally in the exhaust, etc. and is still accurate and fast. I use a Techedge controller. I noticed my LM-2 and customers LC-1s seem to be very hard on the sensor, maybe with the way they drive the heater digitally?

When there are more LSU4.9 compatible controllers to choose from will be upgrading, but so far cannot complain about the life of LSU4.2 sensors.

Re: Toyota Powered VL Calais
Some interesting info from guys that know widebands in that thread!
Certainly explains the noise problems with the MTX-L. I was measuring 1.2MHz switching noise on the 12V power to the MTX-L when trying to work out why my radio no longer got reception with the MTX-L powered up.
