VR VATS? no injector pulse

Post by vlad01 »

Just did a engine and gearbox transplant on my brother's VR 5L ute and its has few intermittent non starting episodes.

Just got some battery terminals replaced at my house and all good, after a cupa my brother went to go home and its not starting. I have isolated the problem to no injector pulse.

power is there at injectors.

spark plugs firing.

Fuel pump runs.

CEL code 12 so all is good.

ECU ignition feed @ 12V.

No injector pulse though :?:

Its a weird setup, has VR+ type key fob but also has the enable switch in the door like VP which I never seen before. like a hybrid system of both models?
Switching this switch does nothing to help it start. When it was working the on position disabled the car as the fob doesn't work it seems.

There has been a lot of previous owner hacks and the dash had been removed with wires messed about with.

I am wondering could this be a VATS thing thats buggered up and not letting the injectors fire? What other things can it be?

Im inclined to just have VATS disabled to keep it simple.

If you log it will show if VATS is a problem or not. Injector PW will be 0 and the VATS Ok flag will be clear.

Will also tell you if the ECU/PCM is able to see RPM while cranking.

I have a VR and they all have the key to switch off the security as far as I know. I had intermittent starting problems and finally tracked it down to dry solder joints in both keys.

Was it doing it with the old motor ? If not go over everything you've undone during the engine swap, could be something simple as a bit of dirt under the earth leads on the back of the cyl head, the main power lead from the battery to the starter get brittle over the years and can fail, so can a lot of the other wires, use the kiss theory

I had thid before, signal from dissy was enough to trigger spark but not injectors.
Cant remember the voltage figures but after fitting the new hall effect sensor the signal nearly doubled.

can i log a standard 424?

I've reconditioned the loom. everything works on the loom. Checked all the connections they are fine.

could it be the ignition module? dont they provide the signal to the ECU? I found the coil is always powered and gets very hot if the ignition is left on but engine not running. But since disconnected the wiring from the coil that runs to the LPG. I've removed all LPG stuff yesterdays from the electronics so its as if standard petrol wiring now, haven't rechecked the coil yet

The key fob is cactus, was from the beginning.

ok tried that, TP doesn't connect, but the flash tool works with same port settings.

Is there other files I need to setup in TP, like the XDF? cos I currently have it setup for 12P

Disable the plugin, needs to use native TunerPro logging if its a standard bin on there.

Thanks for that. Worked it out in the end.

here is the log. I can see RPM when I crank but no injector DC.

So this is VATS having its way?
