Saw somebody has a Benetton F1 car for sale, a little out of my price range as has a few too many 0's on the end, but was interested in the engine specifications:
Size 1.5 Litre
Boost 5.5 Bar (80psi)
Power 1300+hp in qualifying trim
http://my105.com/ListingDetails/tabid/6 ... fault.aspx
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986_Formula_One_season
Makes for some interesting reading and gives some insight into where current rules for a limited number of engines and gearboxes per driver per season comes from.

When you read about the power delivery it makes them sound like they're nearly undriveable, and on top of that was manual gear changes as well.
2-3 second turbo lag followed by power going near instantly from 2-300hp to 1000+up, would have been frightening in the dry let alone the wet. Makes the modern day f1 cars look a little tame.

Yeah. Certainly not the same car, but if you've seen the movie 'rush' a lot of what they say about F1 racing and the drivers who do it in there fits that picture, too. Good movie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzNbGH1oZJc

It really does show the technology GM (and other manufacturers) were playing with, to have production cars running sequential injection and ignition while it was still being developed in formula 1 is pretty amazing.
