I was using the engine/alternator body as my earth point.

nah the module outputs about 7-8v to the hall sensor. did you try putting a test lamp on your coil terminals and test for a flash first? best to check the easy things first.
also put a test light on an injector plug.... if injectors are pulsing then hall sensor is fine :)

Nope, didn't test the coil yet.

I think the injectors are pulsing because while we were testing the fuel system you could smell raw fuel in the exhaust after the engine had been turned over a fair few times. Will double check that one.

Ive been through this a couple of times, and from memory you can have a slight drop in voltage and still get injector pulse but no spark.
Cant remember if the dissy is 12v or 5v,

yeah a few people have had spark and no injector and some get no spark but injector they can do awefull things when theres not quite enough grunt out the hall effect sensor.just a shame its way down the back good excuse to do inlet gaskets dizzy pickup and move the coil and extend its wires while its all off LOL

Yeah, it make the bay a little tidier tucking the coil back there but for maintenance it's a PITA.

Thinking of getting one of VL400's ignition modules and converting it to multi-coil configuration :)

this is part of the reason I converted my 304 to use a reluctor dizzy and camira ignition module .... it will probably fail on the first big trip now :) hehehe

At least with VL's module it would be easy to find out what is going on and no more separate coil /ignitor. Swap the coil and you're off again :)
