Q from Gumby.

Post by OZ38 »

Hi all,

Ok most would know I am pretty lost when it comes to this stuff. But I do believe I will get an answer even I can understand here.
I have a EFI Live V4 Pro program on my old Laptop running win XP. In the past I have been able to scan/log my VS V6 & my VY V6 (not that I really knew what I was doing). I now have a VT V6 engine & ECU/PCM with loom transplanted into a ex petrol Hilux 4WD, using Mark's Adapter interface loom etc. After some reading I have found out it was install without the BCM & apparently a special chip/memcal was configured to allow it to run like this.
So recently I blew the dust off the laptop & ALDL adapter cable, hooked it all up to the Hilux to try to do some scans & hopefully logging. But for some reason it was giving a error message about not hearing Chatter & would not connect.

Question: Is this because it has no BCM & can I get around this to do some scanning/ logging or could Tunerpro be a better option to try ?

Cheers

yes it is because the VT normally has the bcm initiate the heartbeat for other devices on the aldl bus to sync to. without it, looks like efilive is a bit confused... I woudl throw away efilive and use tunerpro and one of the ADX's from here:

Thanks for the reply Jayme.
I will try out the TunerPro & hopefully I can get help using it through here. I have found the EFI Live forum has long delays if any between replies when asking for help.

Hi all again,

well trying to follow the Tunerpro Guide to Data Logging. I have already become unsure of the direction to take. With the ADX file download, do I save it to the DataStreams folder inside the Tunerpro folder ?
Also with the ADX files in THE1's links it seems to only have one ADX file for VT & also something about it being for a V8 ?
I was trying to (hopefully :? ) log a VT V6 engine with BCM removed in a 4x4 conversion.

Dizzy & Carbie tuning I understand reasonable well, even the EFI is not to scary. But finding my way around Computers I find a little lost.

Cheers

yeh there was a link in that thread which refers you to the latest A5 VT V6 ADX's

http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic. ... =700#p8371

Dont need to put the file anywhere in particular just open it in tunerpro can drag and drop the adx into it if it's easier.

You can save it where ever you want, the important part is remembering where you have saved the files.

I personally have created folders for ADX, XDF, BIN under the parent Tunerpro folder.

Once you have saved all of those, open Tunerpro, move the pointer over the File header and click the right mouse button to drop down the menu, select open bin. locate the bin where you saved it and open it. Do the same for the XDF.

To load the ADX, move the pointer to the Acquisition header, and then select "load definition file" and go to where ever you saved the ADX file.

Thanks guys. I will do like suggested & create a folder inside Tunerpro folder for ADX's.
Will save those 4 or 5 ADX's of Jayme's there & see how we go.

You might as well just grab the latest version. Its unlikely you'll need the older ones, and if you do they'll still be available here. Might just save confusion. Generally you always want the newest as things get fixed or added.

If you mean the latest ADX versions then I have already just grab the lot ?
I think I have Tunerpro RT v5 already.

Well I am rapped already. Followed THE1's Guide to Data Logging & selected the latest one of Jayme's VT V6 ADX (v105 I think it was).

Soon I was looking at a working Dash Board coming from my 4x4 V6 conversion (with BCM removed). The Tacho was working find & VSS was sitting there waiting for a signal, which is what I really needed TP to do for me at this stage.

Very Happy.

Good to hear its all working for you. My point about the older versions was more along the lines of be sure not to use them. Some people do, then have problems they could have avoided and come back to us wasting time. But, it sounds like your all good on the latest.
