Re: MAF Tuning For Larger Cam - Roller 304 Engine
Thanks. I just thought the link must have been for MAP tunes, as I had never seen any adaptive spark tables before. I just showed you what tables we had.
I guess from your post that there are heaps of tables etc that are hidden from view or not accessible, but are still there somewhere hiding?!
Is having a nice smooth fuel table better than peaks and troughs everywhere, as I've been playing with the smoothing button, instead of changing individual cells.
It's getting better, but I'm too scared to take too much out, so I'm sneaking up on it a little bit at a time. But I suppose too little advance is better than too much.

the tables are right there in your pic main spark table and low octane spark table in the list on the left.all the tables you had open on screen are the adders for temp and PE
If Its Got Gas Or Ass Count Me In.if it cant be fixed with a hammer you have an electrical problem

Thank you. It's not far away, so I'll keep sneaking up on it.
A shame some of you clever people don't live in Tansania.
Cheers

Re: MAF Tuning For Larger Cam - Roller 304 Engine
Hi. I seem to have rid the car of the "pinging" under heavy load up hill in too high a gear, but unfortunately after a couple of weeks and a couple of dozen tweaks and untweaks, I've got myself in a right mess with the tune. Can someone please offer any advise as to where I've managed to cock it up, which is probably in a lot of areas. It idles reasonably when hot, but stalls when cold even though the "Idle speed vs coolant etc." charts are set for a high idle, I've got the IAC steps down to 50 at idle, the spark tables match in the idle areas etc etc.
In the screen shot of the log, the IAC steps should be at 75 (according to the table) where the cursor is, not 100, when the throttle is closed, the spark advance drops with it, and @ 2:09 when I change back a gear, the throttle % goes up, the MGC goes up and the revs drop and the spark advance drops alarmingly.
I searched the interweb high and low, even downloaded "IDLE TUNING by Krambo and Rinkrat456" to try and get some hints, (even though it's for LS* tunes).
Any hint, tip or advice hugely appreciated, as I've run out of ideas. Kind Regards

If unsure, and if you've changed a lot of things go back to stock, and try and edit just the tables you think you need to from what you've learnt so far. Once too much is changed recovering the situation can become very difficult if not impossible due to they so many tables affect each other. Ideally you want to stay as close to stock as you can with just the changes you need. Experiment sure, but try not to stack changes on changes as you learn. Always undo changes if they didnt do what you expected, and try and test only 1 change at a time until you can prove it improved part of your problem and you can understand how.

How much idle timing are you running?

There is WAY more going on that changes the IAC steps, and at 50+ KPH its not going to be what you have in the table. Things get added when your moving for things like emissions, things get learnt at idle to become a new base idle IAC value.Monarols71 wrote:In the screen shot of the log, the IAC steps should be at 75 (according to the table) where the cursor is, not 100, when the throttle is closed, the spark advance drops with it, and @ 2:09 when I change back a gear, the throttle % goes up, the MGC goes up and the revs drop and the spark advance drops alarmingly.[/attachment]
The point at 2:09 could be lean, look at you O2 volts or wideband.
Posting the bin and XDL might help further.

Thank you very much for the replies. I will try to get the log file attached. I've been having trouble getting the program to connect when trying to log. I have to turn echo off > save > connect > turn echo on > connect, and then it will connect, most of the time.

Thanks again. Here is todays log and idle spark screen.

What's your target idle afr? Actual afr could be a bit lean by the look of it.
