Late model cars with aftermarket controllers
It seems there's really only 2 choices... haltec or motec?
Which is better & has more options & which is easier/user friendly?
Does anyone have files on how to setup or use either system?
Seems haltec used to be the goto, but motec may be taking over?

Re: Late model cars with aftermarket controllers
I have wired in many motec and haltec into everything from speedway cars to hotrods, not done any tuning other that loading basic start up maps to check our work. Both are very easy to install and understand, motec have great tech support, haltec from my experience has been poor in that dept. both call for a mill spec harness ( tefzel wire ) and can be expensive to get that level of harness built. Im lead to believe that the new haltec has a much higher ip rating that the motec.
Hope that helps...

Re: Late model cars with aftermarket controllers
How long is a piece of string? Its a very open question as neither is better than the other if it does not suit your needs. The other big consideration is who installs it and tunes it, pretty easy to botch up either and be left with a POS.
My flavour of the month (well the last year) has been the Motec M1 series. It is close to a design your own controller, but comes at a price.
The new Haltech Elite is certainly worth a look at, along with the Adaptronic.
Best thing to do if you are really wanting to know more about either is to download the software from a whole range of ECUs and install it on your PC.

Re: Late model cars with aftermarket controllers
There was a 2013 Toyota 86 I did a baseline on today & he has got it ready for FI & say's Motec has a plug & play & just want's to know whats best.
I haven't used either & really want to but I try & talk anyone into sticking with Delco & if it doesn't have it I really are un-sure where to lead!
But thanks all I will download both & see what looks more user-friendly & then hopefully it is similar to patch in!

In the case of the 86, the motec is the only plug in option.
The 86 uses electric power steering. It won't fire up until it sees a rpm signal via can. The ABS and traction systems are also not happy..
The motec has can integration with the 86's systems.
I have wired in an L98 to an 86 and we got around this by keeping the original ECU and running a trigger wheel on the harmonic balancer for the original ecu. The coolant temp is also communicated via CAN.

Re: Late model cars with aftermarket controllers
It sounds like the question has been answered but my 2c is my track car has an old haltech e6x and runs well so even though i'd love to delco it there isnt much to justify the time it'd take (if it aint broke...) I did manage to blow up an output channel for spark a few years ago though and after I discussed what I knew and how I wanted to fix it haltech support posted me a replacement IC for free in the mail for me to install. I cant say they would always do that but I was impressed.

If Its Got Gas Or Ass Count Me In.if it cant be fixed with a hammer you have an electrical problem

Re: Late model cars with aftermarket controllers
Yeah I did try & talk him into tuning the factory software, but he really wanted boost control which I didn't think it would be possible with it, but looking in the above mentioned thread there is talk of boost control so I may have to look into it!
