Re: Fins on back of Valve & Fins pre TB
I used to live near Duncan McWade who made one of these back in the 60's. It was tested by the ABC and got a raving report. The next day the media withdrew the report and said it didn't work. I went round to see him a couple of months later and he had gone insane. He took forever to open the door and rushed us inside saying the oil companies were out to kill him. My view is they make money for the manufacturer and keep people employed so let the idiots (believers) believe.

Yeh i had seen testing with the mace lid spacers before and made it worse, but yeh you would have to alter runner length and size to match the plenum to gain out of it. Boost would be a different story, I know larger runners help volume and smaller aid's flow rate, shorter helps high rpm and longer low rpm, the mace plenum spacers do help N/A Torque in lower rpm by making them slightly longer, so a next thought could be to a drop in runner to make them longer again and would having the end fluted flat or at an angle be best? flat would prob be best for air distribution? If you made them say half way up the plenum and added lid spacer on not that i have one.

we have been working on this idea for our workshop VT V6 racecar, machine receivers into the base of the manifold and have knock in trumpets to alter runner length, could be used to tune for different driving events, etc...drop in runner to make them longer again
If you want a test dummy, I am it...

LOL, I proposed almost this exact idea to a manufacturer/supplier many years ago, however it wasn't something on there radar as they were working on other (model) engine developments. Although they did believe in the merits of the proposal they weren't going to pursue it and suggested I manufacture something myself. Unfortunately I don't have access no enough equipment to manufacture it.Biggvl wrote:we have been working on this idea for our workshop VT V6 racecar, machine receivers into the base of the manifold and have knock in trumpets to alter runner length, could be used to tune for different driving events, etc...drop in runner to make them longer again

However, if you look at the old Grp A twin TB manifold you would see exactly that, a base with trumpets inserted into it and even today I believe that 888 racing change the intake trumpets on there engines to suit different tracks so there must be merit in the design aspect.

As do F1, indy, etc..888 racing change the intake trumpets on there engines to suit different tracks

def doable, ill get drawing, i can do 20x20x20 cm max size, so i can do two sets of 3, i think the alternate angle would def have to help as firing order from back to front is one after the other after cyl1.

here's something quick, 50deg angle, it would wedge into the top of the runner port and should just fit under the existing lid, can play with any angle or size opening

Re: Fins on back of Valve & Fins pre TB
My system would have seen the 6 trumpets, something like this,

fitted into the plenum fitted in such a way that they almost continued in a straight line with the port/runner. They would still have had to make a small turn but not as drastic as the standard LIM/plenum. It would have needed a plenum spacer. That's also the reason I never continued with the design as it would require some fairly accurate boring into the LIM/plenum.
IF you wanted to take it to the next extreme, you would then make a new plenum lid with injector bosses and have each injector fire directly into the top of each trumpet. Real F1 style intake system

me too, thats the way I was looking to go. Machining of the base no drama for us, could also machine an Oring receiver so swapping out trumpets would be real easy. Was looking to angle the trumpets toward the respective valve, was going to space plenum to allow. My system would have seen the 6 trumpets, something like this

I brought up the injector location on another post and my ideas where shot down (by facts)
