$12P Is anti-theft disabled by default?

Post by Circlotron »

On my car the flags
MAP A: set=Disable anti-theft module control
MAP B: set=Disable anti-theft module control
are both ticked.

It might seem obvious if you already know but does that mean the car can be started without using the key fob thingy?
I was out the other day and the car wouldn't unlock because the fob battery had finally quit. I unlocked the door with the key and got in and rang the missus to come and rescue me. Does this mean though that I could have started the car even though the fob signal had not been received?

yep.

I used this to work around some security fault on my brother's ute. I used 11P with those set and it was good to go!

I turned VATS on in my VR with 12P as it does have an SXR board, with it off the starter has a slight delay after turning the key, this is the BCM waiting for the ECU but times out and cranks anyway once it gets no reponce.

with it on, there is no delay anymore.
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

the key can be as flat as a shit carters and the car should still start, the key reader applys 5v to the key which will over ride the flat battery. This issue also causes the crank delay vlad is talking about.

^^ Sorry, should have been more specific. Car is VP so key is old skool metal and plastic only. Key fob is separate thing on the key ring.

if that's the case, there will be a security over ride lock in the LH A pillar, if you still have the key, turn it off and it reverts back to a standard [no immobiliser] system

Nah, got no security key. Tomorrow I'll see if I can start the car when the dashboard beeper is beeping and the console LED is flashing. Then I'll report back.

Having said that, should the beeper and LED be operating if the anti-theft module is disabled in the EPROM?

Anti theft is disabled by default as it only works on VR and VS vehicles (VS you select the VS VATS option flag). They have the BCM controlling the starter relay and the ECU disabling the injectors for VATS.

On VN and VP vehicles it would mean a no start situation, they do not have comms between the ECU and BCM due to no 8192 baud ALDL and the VN/VP BCM does not have the same VATS system as the later models.

So with the majority of 12P users running a VN or VP it was turned off by default to reduce the number of no start issues. VR and VS users can turn it on if they want it. If you turn it on in a vn and VP you would need a 8192 baud one wire aldl ecu and the later model BCM with matching key head or the injectors won't ever pulse.
