VZ 5.7 safety mode

Post by Gareth »

Hi all,

can anyone see why this goes into safety mode at 4700rpm, happens every time at that speed, this is being done on the dyno,

this is causing me lots of head banging :comp:

Only thing I can see is it's starting to pull out spark at 2500rpm onwards.
Bit of a long shot but have you got the traction control turned off?
Doesn't like it when front wheels aren't turning and rears are.

Ive had that problem before running vz ls1 in mafless mode, from memory the "predicted airflow vs rpm vs tps was causing safety mode to activate , was also getting code p1514 ,and dash displaying "saftety mode" try raising the numbers.

If it's mafless with a few mods you'll need to re calibrate the airflow rationality tables

It is mafless and is modded

After i posted it spat out a p1516 - throttle actuator control module, throttle position performance

What is meant by 'airflow rationality tables'

Its manual and doesnt have a traction control off button?

Thanks guys

Not sure about LS, but with the V6's when removing a MAF the fault DTC will fail it over to a default airflow table, it reads this table to then work everything else, so you will need to log the new values for the table and update it. As VN5000 said above have a look for the table "predicted airflow vs rpm vs tps"

right, found the "predicted airflow vs rpm vs tps" table, not sure what to do with the numbers, add 10%?

that table says it relates to P1514 but I had a P1516 which points to a faulty throttle body? It seems too consistent to be a faulty part, I haven't yet been able to get a loaded run over 4700rpm, it will free rev all day. Im sure the throttle is ok.

This is all on HPtuners, it is a speed density tune (custom operating system) so Im certain the MAF or lack of now has no bearing on any tables.

thanks for all your ideas, don't hold back

Yeah i thought the same at first, i gave it a run with the abs module unplugged, still the same

Just did some reading on other sites, possibly poor earth connection, although I probably think more likely in the tune. There were a couple that recommended adding about 30% to the "predicted airflow vs rpm vs tps" table.

This may give some ideas in regards to P1516.

EDIT: With tech2 should be able to see what some of the parameters were when the code was set.

Thanks for the info yoda

Going racing in the morning (at avalon, you're welcome to come and have a ride if your around :D ) so i'll give it another run in the arvo with 30% in that table and see how it goes.

I think this problem has come about because the lack of information out there on ls1 speed density tuning, all the books i have all don't cover pure speed density tuning.
