Re: How to loose 200kgs?....
I can't believe the car weighs that much?
I reckon a lot of the weight is in the body as the running gear can't make even close to that.
engine should be around 170 in its state, gearbox, about 50-60, tail shaft, about 15, rear axle about 70-80. exhaust be around 15-20.
suspension, sprung and unsprung be around 60-80kg? cooling system about 15-20. Worst case total is 445Kg. So the rest is the chassis and body, cage.
So around 700Kg without driver assuming 100Kg.

I think you would be surprised how much all the suspension sprung and unsprung would be and I think you would be under-estimating what a chassis and cage would weight.

Re: How to loose 200kgs?....
I've got whole front ends complete in the shed. Not that heavy really. The wheel is 1/2 to 2/3 of the complete strut's weight, for a stock steel wheel that is.
could be the cage but i can't imagine the cage to be 200kg, so the body must be around 500-600kg?
Also the engine is actually lighter still that i thought at 1st. the counter weights on the crank are gone so I reckon the engine be closer to 150-160kg.
I might weigh a strut and post up the kg tomorrow.

Cage is very extensive, 38mm od, by 3mm thick throughout the car, boot and chassis as required by rules.
I estimate my front strut and light weight rotor to weigh about 40kgs each, love to know what stock is..

take a leaf out of the old touring car racers book haha 3 days of sandblasting the shell until it is wafer thin where strength is not needed.
Re: How to loose 200kgs?....
For anybody interested, a stock VR V6 loom weighs 2.25kgs... Bummer I guessed heaps more.

After cutting out the tail shaft out of the VP parts car today, I was surprised how heavy it was. Some losses to be made there for sure. It was about 15-20Kg from the feel.

do you run the two piece or single shaft ? that would cut a bit of weight out of it ?
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: How to loose 200kgs?....
not sure which way you mean that. 2 piece is certainly more heavy.
Just to put it into prospective. My tailshaft by feel weighs almost as heavy as as complete VP strut, with lower control arm, with rotor, minus caliper.
if you got money, a carbon fiber one would be the way to go. minimum 4 times as strong, many fold lighter.
The flat bed CNC cutters I do at work use a carbon fiber coupling shaft, about 3" diameter, alloy couplings at each end, max length is about 3m long. Pick it up with your pinky and throw it haha. Tops would be 2-3Kg. Incredibly light that it hurts your brain at first.

hurts your brain at first

Running a two piece shaft, I enquired about having a one piece made up by two different shaft makers and both recommend not to, so not sure...
Brought some scales for the shed yesterday so will weigh one when I get home
