Also dyno tuners and workshops need access for diagnostic tests. The manufacturers release tools that will cause the car to act in a certain way now. By their very nature those tools can be abused, but they also need to exist and I dont see them going away. Its the ole you cant have your cake and eat it too. If you can find a buffer overflow in the stereo head unit via bluetooth and exploit it via a default pin and take over the can chip in the head unit and via that the then its newsworthy. I bet that is possible but its a high bar to reach. A demonstration of that would be impressive. I believe some keyless start systems have been exploited. I think the videos of that are around the site somewhere.

well, I stand corrected. Remote hacks over the internet of stock vehicles, and reprogramming infotainment firmware to bridge on to the can bus proven and demonstrated.

Looks like the VF's arent in much better situation if they are going to actually allow people to develop apps, and even add apps using an internet connection.
