VN V8 308 with Solid 252/260 cam 106 LSA
Howdy All,
Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with tuning the above cam on VN to VS with re-fresh build & running 10.7:1 comp & will there be any major drama's when using $12p another shop has had a look at it & said it can't be done on stock controller & wanted to use an aftermarket!
I know with closed throttle VE & then matching the running VE table to suit it should be reasonable but will probably have to have the idle set pretty high?
Any ideas or thoughts welcome!
Cheers VX L67 Getrag

I tuned my own car with manual trans 12P and a crane 288 solid.
252 260 590 lift and 108 lc. 10.5 comp.
I spent a lot of time tuning this and git it running sweet. Target idle of 900 resulted in a rock solid idke between 900 and 950. Drove very smooth considering the cam. Great looking plugs.
All without using closed throttle ve (im a bit proud of that) as the vac jumps around a bit at idle and when slowing to an idle. At idle the vac was very low around 85kpa. With a higher idle of about 1100 it only raised to 70.
But mine was steady as at 900 target and about 10 iac steps.
No need for any throttle assistance when cranking. I've seen plenty v8 with this cam it's very common but not many are tuned well. They all say it can't be done. Mine runs fantastic.
That tune is in the 12p custom tune thread feel free to have a look.
I have a bin here somewhere of a stroker running this cam with high comp snd stock intake. Tuned with SP3.
Never heard or seen the car but the owner was happy with how it ran.

The only prob I can see is the comp, it's a bit high for pump fuel, what intake is it running ?thats the biggest problem with the holden V8, you can put a massive cam in and it won't work with standard intake, no matter what controller you use, I can feel my stroker hut the wall just over 4500rpm as it can't flow any more

yeah tell the tune shop to bugger off
they probably just want to make more money off you!
weather the motor performs well with the cam and inlet or not it wont change the fact that you will be able to tune it perfectly with the factory computer and $12p.....
but yeah you might need a higher idle than normal but that's only really a problem if its an auto, but one would hope if it is it will have the right converter anyways.

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Thanks guys all good food for thought!
It is an auto, but haven't asked if it has a stally yet!
I'm still waiting to get confirmation on job but thought it should be pretty possible & yeah it does have the limiting banana!

It wouldn't even be worth putting on the dyno with that cam and banana manifold no air speed over 4000rpm on std motor that combo would probably use all the air the bananas can provide by 3000rpm

Yeah the guy is aware of that, he's just ran out of cash to go any further at this point & with what other tuning shop said he got really worried about spending extra $$$ but hopefully I can help him out with all the great gear we have on this site!

Ia it really ground at 106 lc? Not an off the shelf grind if it is. That's a very tight centre line should sound the part at least.

Yeah that's what I thought too, but yeah all that came direct from engine builder!
Re: VN V8 308 with Solid 252/260 cam 106 LSA
never heard of a 106 cam actually being used.... thats a heavy cam!! no power under 6000 rpm
wonder where its peak power is.
