yeah good to see you've most likely worked out the issue!
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Stupid question - anybody know the reference angle for the ELB setup? Either that or measure it with a protractor and it a go.

Re: 265 Hemi to efi
you could correct it with the reference angle to line up with the post, but the problem is, the camira module runs the timing straight up during cranking, so once you correct the reference angle, then the cranking advance will be way out. for the delco and camira, you are pretty well limited to running 10 deg ref angle and modifying the dizzy to suit that. it would still be interesting to see what the stock ref angle for that dizzy is though, to see if its normal or damaged.

Re: 265 Hemi to efi
yeah when I've modified holden 6 dizzy's for camira module I have made sure the advance was at zero before locking them up so they then should work as normal just computer advance instead of weights and vacuum..... but have zero experience with this 265 dizzy, so don't know whats possible.

Thanks for the replies guys. Lots to consider. I know I have read somewhere else about measuring the reference angle with a protractor but if you could be so kind, how do you do actually that?

Re: 265 Hemi to efi
I'd get the motor lined up so the dizzy rotor is pointing directly at the #1 plug post, then see where the crank mark is compared to TDC.... if you have markings on the front of the motor for 10 degress or similar you should be able to work out pretty close to where it is....
the other thing I just thought, if its that close to the next cylinder on the cap have you tried moving the leads all around one spot and see if that's any better ?

Re: 265 Hemi to efi
Thanks Sam, sounds he same as this I found on a Wolf installAtion manual, except using 10 degrees rather than 22.
Step By Step Rotor Button Phasing
• Put the distributor cap onto the distributor.
• Mark on the outside of the distributor housing to indicate where the electrode for the first
cylinder/rotor is.
• Rotate the crankshaft to 22°BTDC.
• With the rotor button in place, rotate the distributor housing until the rotor button is pointing
directly at the mark you have made on the housing.
• Tighten the distributor clamping bolt.
• Do NOT loosen the clamping bolt again. This is the position the distributor housing must be
placed to ensure correct Rotor Button Phasing.

Re: 265 Hemi to efi
I would put the engine on TDC No1. Screwdriver in the plug hole is sufficient. Check the timing mark alignment for TDC on the crankshaft. Have a look where the rotor button is pointing. Have a look at the reluctor and it should be aligned with the pickup coil. Turn the ignition on and rotate the disy in the direction of rotation. Turn it back opposite the direction of rotation until you get a spark. Hand turning is usually enough to generate a trigger pulse. Check the alignment of cap, rotor, reluctor wheel and pickup coil. They should all be close to lining up give or take a few degrees. If they are all OK it's getting back to something in the program.

I haven't checked tdc of no 1 piston yet but when the reluctor and pickup coil are in alignment the timing mark is at around 20 degrees advanced.

Re: 265 Hemi to efi
At that time how far off is the rotor from the #1 post? If that is OK then reference angle is around 20 degrees. Sounds too low for my gut feel. Are you sure the cap is the correct part and is aligned correctly with the body of theheff0018 wrote:I haven't checked tdc of no 1 piston yet but when the reluctor and pickup coil are in alignment the timing mark is at around 20 degrees advanced.
Might help to post up a photo of the top of the dissy at #1 TDC with and without the rotor as well as one with the cap in place. Try to do this without moving the camera so they can be superimposed to measure things. Which way does the dissy rotate?
*** edit ***
Is the rotor the correct part? Some of these dissys needed a rotor with an extended / offset tip to allow for the timing range.
