yeah it is, but still easy even in the car. If you can visualize the inside of the tank and where the swirl pot is and know how the sender has to swing into it, its really easy.

....never seen the inside. maybe one day. i tend to patiently lie there on my back and twist and turn until i am there. and would be easier out of the car. no panhard rod in the way :D

had a bit of a paiting bee today.

My last can of RB went off despite resealing it in a new tin.

So I went to more drastic measure this time.

cling film, then sealed in another bigger can and some desiccant beads which I bought years ago.

This stuff isn't cheap and has to be couriered from QLD so not letting go off this time.

It sets when exposed to moisture.

I found there was a lot of build up of corrosion in the heater hose return pipe hole. I used a mini wire wheel on a drill to clean it out and there still was pitting at the point I removed too much metal. Now the pipe fits into the hole really loose and there still is pitting.

That hole is prone to corrosion as the space between the stainless pipe and the o ring has stagnate coolant which eventually corrodes. Its exacerbated by cheap ass people using water instead of coolant :roll: seemed to be the case with 90% of these cars.

So I'm am going to give to to duggans to bore and sleeve it. I found that most unlikely source of a perfect sleeve you will not believe. I will show details on that when its done. :shh: Its brass so no more corrosion in the future. :thumbup:

Also will tell them to skim the water pump face as well just to save me the trouble of trying to block sand it and fucking it up.


btw, those calipers are for the VP S. I had them sitting on my desk for few years awaiting painting. Figured I do them at the same time, Assemble them and put them away for that rainy day. I already have reco calipers for this car.

nice and clean, all i can say is get yourself a cryvac machine, i use them for injectors and meats and lots of different things to keep moisture and air out.

I found this new tin of RB is really glossy compared to the last tin. It looks amazing! My calipers look shit hot now.

Can't wait for my manifold and bits to finished at the blasters. I want to paint them with this stuff :D

talk about improvisation! total coincidence the ID of this propane torch is virtually the same as the ID on a stock cover. Slightly less so even better fit.


So its at duggans now when I went to pick up my mates VY tailshaft where the center bearing completely disintegrated.

Got some brass plugs for the water jackets. Better than shitty swiss cheese steel ones.

Also bought a tin of this on Friday. Read heaps of good on this stuff. Its a non drying gasket, seal, flange dressing that is fuel, oil, coolant, acid proof etc etc..

Its runny and quickly drys to a think wax like tack that sticks like dog shit. The perfect stuff to dress the intake gaskets and make them water proof and resistant to coolant. Fills up minor pitting great too. I used this over silicone sealants as oil and coolant always delaminates it from cast iron and after some time alloy as well.

So hard to clean this stuff of your hands or anything it gets on. I used thinners and even then is took a long time to clean off. So I know its good :thumbup:

I used a bit of epoxy putty at the bottom of the locating holes, not enough to fill the hole but just enough to lift the gaskets upward and keep them from moving down when I install the manifold. There is a bit of movement in the gaskets due to the pins being smaller than the holes, therefore the gasket at the top edge intrudes the ports when the manifold is installed. After few min to cure. I now can't shuffle the gasket downward :D

Will sit like this until I get my manifold back from the blasters and painted up, port matched etc.. The dressing doesn't harden so it can sit as long as it needs.

Re the Hylomar, acetone is the go to remove it or a strong citrus cleaner
