Hi all,
Can anyone see any reason why this couldnt be done?
Cheers

According to chemistry, alcohol is a solution...

It's no problem in 12P if that helps

Should be able to do it fine vl400 was selling own controllers but stopped that as you can use a solid state relay from some where like jaycar to do the same thing

Speaking of which, what amp rating are the PCM outputs? I do intend to run a relay, just curious...

Very low think it was 500ma enough to drive relays but anything bigger will blow it out using the solid state you can still have speed control over it as well compared to a normal relay as it can't deal with the pwm signal quick enough

I used one of VL400's speed controllers to run an electric water pump with flex table, it worked well...
but yeah, just get solid state as Dazza said and you should be in business.

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Using an electric WP in this fashion does it mean it pulses the pump on and off to regulate flow?

Re: Elec water pump controlled by flex table in 11p?
I've always run the pump off ignition via a relay, never used a controller (that worked anyway..) with no trouble other than it was always hard to get temp into the engine prior to a race, so I figured that if it would work being controlled via a table in the PCM then the warm up period shouldn't be a drama...
Going to use the fan output this time aswell, should help the battery on those cold starts.

Re: Elec water pump controlled by flex table in 11p?
yeah it pulses the pump on and off like any speed controller normally does ... the original unit I had was a 12v speed controller for a drill sort of thing and I just set it to the speed I needed, and then with VL400's assistance we removed the IC and modified a few things to get it working with the flex output... it worked really well I setup the flex table to use rpm and engine coolant as the axis, and so when it was stone cold the pump was at its slowest speed, just enough to move water past the coolant sensor, then as it got up to temp it went faster and also went even faster with more revs.
you can set flex outputs to work with engine running only or not too so theres plenty of room for adjustment with it.
and a solid state relay is a hell of a lot cheaper than the davis craig controllers are.
I've seen alot of people with speedway cars use electric water pumps and fans etc, just activated by a switch, but the beauty of this setup is you never forget to turn it on or off! once its setup it just works!

Re: Elec water pump controlled by flex table in 11p?
It's a good idea but I would have thought that a variable voltage supply to regulate motor speed would be better than pulsing and electric motor on/off as each time it's energised it would create a spike in the initial current draw?
