So I assume the alcohol lowers the intake temperatures and allows you to use higher compression ratios and boost? I have a pretty big intercooler that is nearly the size of the radiator so that should help.

How would stock Pistons go with alcohol, melt? Cheers

Nope, fair a lot better than regular fuel.
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

Manifold looks good, well done on finding someone who delivered on what they promised and in such short time!

Interesting....that would save a lot of time and money leaving the stock Pistons.

Yes I was certainly lucky to find a high quality customiser so close to home. Most people I talked to previously were like leave it here and we will look at in when we can.

yeah alcohol is good for cooling :) i use methanol, but even e85 has alot of the same benefits.

previously i have been running 9.3:1 compression with 21-22psi boost and methanol with no intercooler, and so far 202 cast pistons lasted in my car for 2.5 years :) (only rebuilding motor due to failed lifter) and i've spoken to camtech about sticks and they reckon i can run 10-10.5:1 comp with methanol and boost... so will be trying to get the next motor closer to 10.5....

i guess the other benefit is you don't need to decompress your motor, if you have a 9-10:1 comp motor its good to go!

BUT, and there is always a but :P

if you are running methanol you need close enough to 2.5 times as much of it as petrol, and e85 is about 1.5 times ..... so you need a suitably large fuel system to handle it.

just as an example, my brother has just got his 3.8 v6 going on methanol, he has 80lb injectors and 2 x 044 bosch, with about 15psi i reckon it will be on the limit of the injectors .... its currently on about 7-8psi and will be getting on the rollers saturday week so we'll hopefully have an idea what it makes!

Too much alcohol makes it hard to start when cold in both car and human body. But it is such a lovely product for both uses.

Jayme can attest to how hard my gemini is to start cold, pretty good really for straight methanol, but certainly harder to start than petrol ..... i have found though even just a small spray of carby cleaner into the air filter before cranking makes it almost perfect.
