you think that smells good you should try methanol also dip your fingers in it, then pull them out, how nice and cold

like yoda said with the air, these fuels are hydroscopic, meaning they attract water, also once you finish testing with them in the sealed tin, remove them and see what happens after a few days drying...... the main times I've had issues with methanol and corrosion is after draining the fuel system, I make sure I put petrol in straight after and flush it through so theres no more air in the system, and I've had no issues with it ..... but I have found it eats away at some things.

also not sure if its the same everywhere, but I've found united fuel is always around 90% and others go as low as 70% in winter, but apparently united doesn't, but you can get cheap testers off ebay if you want to know. bloke at Sydney dragway swears by united e85 cause its always spot on!

Anyone tried the additives for corrosion? Apparantly you just leave it sit in between runs no worries.

Or you can buy 44s of sucrogen? Brand race e85. Same stuff v8 super cars use and it's anti corrosion.

Supercars changed to united brand this year. The united servo I once went to had a sticker on the bowser with the date it was last filled and the ethanol content as tested on the day. The guarantee 85% all year round.

Caltex only do flex fuel anywhere from E70 to E90. Ok if you have a fkex sensor

one of my mates used to use sucrogen E85 costs a fair bit apparently, and after testing E85 from united he went to that cause of the cost and ease to get it, he reckons it made no change to performance so it must be half alright!

I've found with methanol at least I've never had a problem with corrosion etc if I keep fuel in the system, at the start I did run castor oil in the fuel to help with lub, but it costs craploads and doesn't seem to need it as long as the fuel system isn't in air.

I use this stuff, 1 bottle in a 200l drum, seems to work good & cheaper than castor oil. As Holden202T said, keep it full to keep the air out.

Lol turns out I got the 2 confused, I actual was at a United not caltex, so I got the bet source of fuel literally 2 min down the road from work


while I was in Perth, I ordered these over the phone from Preston motor group which supply all the holden dealers with parts.

HQ picked them up for me. These are the last 2 left any where in the country and I gots them all

The verdict on the E85 soak test is surprising.

The normal fuel lines did fine and the interesting part is the outside jacket which is not meant for fuel contact is completely perfect in E85. The genuine 24 year old lines hold up a treat, the Codan brand does alright too but the feel of the 2 I'd say long term the genuine hose. Funny as it was designed when there was no such thing as alcohol fuels.

The bad news is the in tank hose dies very fast, 12-24 hours and its fucked. Stays intact but picks away very easy as seen here. So VN-VS commodores will need the tank opened up and that line replaced with something like a gates submersible line, which they are alcohol rated standard and aramid reinforced

Interesting bit is the bits left out of the E85 over night seems to have reconstituted more or less back to normal. Im going to leave it soaking for a week , test its properties and then leave it for a while outside and see if it comes back to normal or stays crumbly.

With the K mac strut tops. They have a custom made nut with spigot to located into the hemi joint. The potential problem I see is that there is no locking means for the nut so I had used these anti shake washers before. They are harden spring steel, conical shape and are serrated. I have heaps at work but they are too small. At a job on the last day of work I was 2 blocks from wurth and I stopped in and got some. Perfect fit! Genius!

Looks like is would foul up but it moves the full range of motion which is 5 times what it will actually move once in the car. Could not work out better. I think I will pass this on to Kevin at K-mac as this is potential safety improvement.

Cam plug, new one on the left, shitty steel one on the right. Dont worry, there is enough depth to install 2 of those brass ones back to back and still not hit the cam lol.

I also replaced those shitty gallery plugs with proper hex ones of a better metal. The factory ones are cast as I found when I broke 2 trying to get them out of the old block in the vacationer as I wanted spares. These new ones are the same as I used to delete the knock sensor in one of the earlier posts few pages back. I bought a heap as I always do haha.
