Commodore VT V6 - Auto to Manual Conversion

Post by Chuff »

Hey All,

My son has just completed the mechanical conversion of his Commodore VT V6 Berlina from an auto to a manual using a manual Commodore Executive VT V6 as a donor vehicle, including changing the engine and transmission wiring looms and the PCM, but the car does not want to start. It will crank over and start momentarily and then stop.

Could this be an issue with the existing BCM in the Berlina, as he didn't swap the BCM, or is there something else, like needing to relink the BCM & PCM. He doesn't want to use the BCM out of the Executive as he will loose all the higher level Berlina functions such as electric windows etc.. or is this incorrect?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the bcm and ecm have to be linked via tech 2 or similar. You may be able to disable vats in the tune and see if that's your problem, I don't play with VT's so I can't help any more but I'm sure biggvl or tazzi will know 100%

Thanks HQ355 & delcowizzid.

So delcowizzid. Are you saying the original auto PCM with the manual memcal should work? No need for linking?

Thanks.

So does the VT ECU need to be linked or the memcal in the ECU linked to the BCM? I thought the VATs were in the memcal.

The BCM and ECU need to be linked.
Disabling VATS tells the ECU not to worry about the signal from the BCM and just start.

Thanks everyone,

Original auto PCM with manual memcal now installed and working perfectly.

Too easy.

the link is stored in the PCM's internal nvram, the memcal is just the static program.
