Re: Alternative Alternators ?
so I went racing on the weekend, (see my ride thread for that info) and I am pleased to say that I saw 13.4-6v's all weekend long from the alternator so very happy with that result, possibly could improve with the sense wire in the boot, but im happy that its just saying up in the 13's

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: Alternative Alternators ?
yeah sure is, put 20% more fuel into my boost ve table after the first run to get it back to where it should have been, so theres obviously some injector offset changes needed

Re: Alternative Alternators ?
I am stunned by the 20% difference in the ve table
I am well aware of the effects of having the wrong voltage in a circuit but have never considered the after effects like in regards to tune...
Well done, i hope others learn from this, i sure did.

Re: Alternative Alternators ?
Is the percentage so high because it's on methanol ? Would it only be 10%ish if it was petrol, still a big diff though

Re: Alternative Alternators ?
yeah im not 100% sure to be honest ... all I know was the AFR's were about 5.5 and after richening 20% it went to 4.8 which was the 16psi target afr .... its also taken my injectors to 82% duty cycle, time to turn the rail pressure up shortly I think!

Re: Alternative Alternators ?
Had a clamp meter handy and both cars at home, fluke 336, which has DC Current mode. Tests done at Idle, OFF means everything that can be switched off is, ON means everthing ON, high beams, A/C, Radio etc. From the tests i think the A/C in the VS chews alot more current than the VX. I dont know how reliable clamp meters are.
VS V6
Battery
OFF 6.3A ON 5.5A
Alternator
OFF 2.3A ON 36.5A
VX V6
Battery
OFF 2.8A ON 17A
Alternator
OFF 3.5A ON 21.8A
VS V6
Battery
OFF 6.3A ON 5.5A
Alternator
OFF 2.3A ON 36.5A
VX V6
Battery
OFF 2.8A ON 17A
Alternator
OFF 3.5A ON 21.8A
Re: Alternative Alternators ?
A/C clutch worn out?
check individual circuits (at relays is often easyest) to find source of high current draw
Thats getting up there for a standard unit...

Re: Alternative Alternators ?
Actually it could be the wiring on the VS? look when i have everything on it draws more from the alternator than the battery, compared to the VX, A/C is fine.
Re: Alternative Alternators ?
Yeah, makes sense. Would be good to know the polarity of the battery current, I'd assume the Off figure is charging and the On figure is discharging. However, how can the charging figure exceed the alternator figure?
