delco tuner competition

Post by Gareth »

He guys, been pondering this for a little while... Looking for interest in having a tuner competition where the spec of a vehicle is advertised to a group of people, everyone submits a bin file that gets loaded to the car and ran on a dyno. The person with the best results wins... Best result being highest average power.

I think that this would be a fantastic way of sharing skills and information, after results are made, each file could be croteacted with factual data, no guessing, to show why it did or didnt work.

A data log could be supplied or it could be done blind just like an ebay power tune ;) We have both late and early delco power V6's to choose from, either stock or with common mods (intake & exhaust)

Im happy to use my dyno and tools, would be happy to make a day of it. Could even use skype to view it live if wanted?..

If there is enough interest i'll put together an entrants list, plan to hold it within the next couple of months.

Thoughts?

I might just buy a random ebay 'stage 3' chip and enter it as my own.
Don't worry about giving out the engine specs, it won't make much difference to my entry

Sounds like a bit of fun, I think it should just be 1 choice of setup (either VN-VR or VS-VY) & just give everyone what info it is (base memcal it has in it) & what mod's have been done to it with fuel being used etc...

The thing that may be a bit hard is if being back to back run's the later test's are already going to have heatsoak issues & may hold their tunes back a little.

Good points,

We will settle on a model, what ever you guys decide.

As far as fairness of testing, each run will be carried out with the same coolant temp. I know things like the diff and trans temps may be slightly higher but we will do our best to keep it even. My work shop is air conditioned so ambient temp is no drama.

Cheers.

keep in mind some people are well versed in MAP and some in MAF based tuning, just something to keep in mind if your labeling it as a competition. Personally ive only mainly done MAF tuning, but im happy to submit whatever as im interested in the results.

pretty sure I have a stage 1 prom from trx100 somewhere.
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.
