Re: my ride vt ecotec
Hey guys i got the car up and running again it seems that the miss was some dead plugs thats whit i get for buying cheap plugs neaver again so id like to thank everyone who has helped me out and i just have a couple of last questions before i strap it down to the dyno and break it in it still doesnt want to idle without some throttle input could this just be because the engine isnt broken in yet as it has poor vacume at idle speed or could it be an issue with the iac it hovers around 116 steps where ever that is is beyond my knowledge thank you dane

At 116 steps you will run out pretty quick. Open the butterfly more. Aim for around 10-20 steps at warm idle. What's your target and actual AFR at idle?
Did you do anything about the injector data? I wouldn't go to a dyno without that.
Best idea could be to send them to The1 and have them tested, verified and the data generated to suit THOSE injectors.

Re: my ride vt ecotec
12.5 is a very rich target that wont help with the steps. Reckon it will idle leaner? Stock cam?
Highh 13's will help along with idle timing around 28 degrees would be nice but I'm not experienced with turbo motors. But on NA motors this works for me.
Is the idle solenoid working?

yeah the afr is rich its just been set up to run atm gotta get more in depth later timing is at about 15 deg a couple deg higher than factory no the cam is huge specs are way back in this post yeah it seems to working the steps change etc ill be definitely looking into it etc

Re: my ride vt ecotec
I'd be trying an 14:1 idle AFR at 28 degree timing if it was NA. But im guessing there's no boost at idle anyway? Big cams like it leaner I've noticed due to the overlap. Factory 5 litre is 14:1 once warm.
Im not experienced with modified V6's though hopefully we all learn from this.

Re: my ride vt ecotec
yeah man will be looking at getting it to around that at idle the service manual says 12 deg timing at idle not sure if i should be at that or more i decided to run it a couple of degrees more because race car lol yeah the cam is pretty big so im not expecting it to get much vacuum either but i thought the higher overlap would help with that witch is y im not sure if i should pull the mani back off n look into lower manifold gaskets or not and thats one of the reasons im trying to keep a log of all this i still learning allot form this car and id like other people to learn something as well if they can use any of this information etc

No way big cam will kill off vacuum any day. Factory V8 is around 20 degree timing and they love high 20's especially with a decent cam. Just creep up on the timing untill vacuum stops climbing.
