You can then up plug the power from it and check again and that will isolate if its got power stuck on or its the injector itself.
It Helps if you have fuel in the tank before performing this test. Ha. I must have used so much fuel yesterday with the problem injector that it drained my small tank dry. I tried to start it late this afternoon just as a final shot but it wouldn't even fire, checked for spark, changed plugs and still nothing. Then I went to put the cap back on the tank and realised that it was empty. Redid the test and yes the no 3 cylinder injector sprayed fuel. I swapped the wires for another injector and again same injector sprayed fuel, so I will get another injector during the week. What a relief, but what a coincidence having a corrupt NVRAM and dud injector at the same time. Cheers

Oh yeah its always hard when multiple issues occur at once. The symptoms just dont add up and its only when you break it down and test each thing at a time that you find out its two unrelated faults and thats why it logically just wasnt adding up!

Could a shorted injector have caused the nvram issue?
According to chemistry, alcohol is a solution...

I would not have thought so, but Ive never done it on purpose to test. So I dont know with absolute certainty that a short couldnt cause that if that pcm flipped out in a weird and wonderful way.

We're back on track. I replaced the injectors with a set of matched re-manufactured VX injectors and all good and it's idling the best ever. However it was still blowing some smoke at all revs and the wideband reading had dropped to about 11 and 12s, I dropped the injector rate back to 0.12 down from 0.14 and the smoke dropped off and the wideband went back up to the 13's and 14's. I checked the plugs after about 30 minutes of running and they were perfect.

sounds like you're on track now.
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

Hi all

I haven't posted much for a while as I have been working on panels, diff and new turbo motor for the past couple of months and have just been firing up the efi motor each weekend to keep it running. But I started back on the tuning last week and I reckon I have the idle pretty much sorted out now. The revelation was setting the AFR at idle at 13.5 as opposed to 14.7 which I had previously been doing. Everything seemed to fall into place once this was done. Another great thing I discovered was using the graph to adjust the tables, the visual prompts of the graph points make it a lot easy to understand the concept of what you are trying to achieve.

I have attached another youtube clip of it idling but it sounds a lot different on youtube as all you hear is the injectors, probably the crap iphone mic but it sounds a lot less agricultural in real life. I have also attached the current bin file and a log file of it at idle if anyone is interested.

There still seems to bit the slightest miss now and then and I reckon this can be attributed to the worn timing gear on the test motor upsetting the timing. Crank trigger setup is definitely on the cards and maybe I should get on to this next while I have everything running right.

The next stage will be to bolt on the turbo and this should open a whole new can or worms.
Cheers

the fact that you can hear the injectors over the motor just means your exhaust is too good heheh ;)

certainly sounds like its more happy now!

with the idle AFR's does it need to be as rich as that to be happy ? can you get it to 14 or 14.2 ? at the end of the day it doesn't really matter too much, just don't want it fouling plugs so the leaner the better.

Thanks Sam, I will keep an eye on the plugs and will try leaning it out a bit to see how it goes.

Yeah, stock exhaust Manifold, stock cam, stock exhaust so pretty quiet. Cheers

Gday,.

Could any one please provide some hints as to what I have to do on the tuning and efi hardware side to hook up the turbo. This is only for testing as I just need to plumb up and install the turbo, intercooler etc so that I can finalise the wiring locations and holes for the intercooler piping etc. it won't be running at revs or under load but it would be good if I could fire it up. Cheers.
