Injected guys do the slow start to fuck up the carbie guys (most carby engines flat spot down low due to not enough adjustability to compensate for the lack of vacume..) I used to get accused of jumping the start when I was the pole sitter

alot of the commodores i see use autos, they just stand on it, back a gear, take off hard then upshift

if you can drive it doesn't matter 
seriously though, they are alot easier to come by than manual gearboxes these days so i am guessing thats the main reason.

tap auto's used to be real common, but most people have gone away from them down here. Seem to be too many reliability problems?..

V6 t5 are pretty common actually. I rang one guy and he said he had 35 in stock lol. Other manual transmission are not so common.
