Modern indicators?

Post by vlad01 »

Anyone know how indicators are timed these days?

Its obviously electronic but what means of timing keeping do they use? is it a flasher can like Im used to or is this a function built into a module elsewhere on the car.

I just noticed at the Port Melbourne Holden factory there is some cars being loaded up on a truck and there is 2 side by side with hazards on and they are perfectly timed out of phase and have has 0 phase drift in the 20min so far of running. They must be using some damn accurate timing for the indicators, very consistent type of flasher from manufacturing variation point of view.

No way a mechanical flasher can could do this. :study: I also noticed new cars indicators sound fake, like a speaker that plays the sound of ticking.

Big day gazing out the window at work today?...

Almost all late model cars use the bcm or in some cases a dedicated lighting module to control all external lights including indicators and the timing of them, I know for a fact that VE commodore indicators are all on seperate control circuits (when programming the tmps, each corner indicator comes on to indicate that it has programmed).

Anyway, if you are that bored at work, come and give me a hand at the shop...

yeah my new cruze has the auto indicator too, flick the stick and it goes for 3 flashes, then with trailer lights it goes 6 .... i assume it detects the difference in load .... pretty tricky!
