How woud you connect your laptop to the ecu without a interface?

He means the ecm comms board (808 style) is not needed. An ALDL interface is required.

Sorry I mean you should only need the VR/VS type interface, not the USB Comms type for the 808.

VR VS type is a USB connection into the OBD2 prort that I suggested to wire in.

If its a '165 then it has aldl, so include the obd port when wiring up and an aldl interface is the answer. It could be one of ours (recommended) but it doesnt need to be so long as its not junk and works properly.

I have access to a USB to OBD2 interface and will wire in a OBD2 to the car now just need to get a nvram and down load a Tune Pro and 12p.

No, although its physically an OBD2 style port ALDL is OBD1.5 . You will require an ALDL adapter.

Where can I get a nvram I have look through the for sale and what ever I need . I can download a flashtool and 12p

Have a read of the guides in the FAQ (see link top right). There are links to the hardware for sale posts in the software and hardware guide. The ports are generic. You need at a minimum GND and ALDL wired up as per the ecm wiring diagram, but you might want to do +12v as well, and if there is a diag enable pin that too. Do you have a '165 wiring diagram? I'd say start there.
