Hello all,
I have a mate who has built a Commodore VY for his son, for use in the TT series at Winton. The young bloke has a history in Speedway & is making the transition to bitumen racing.
The car is running a modified Ecotec V6, with modified cam, fully balanced, extractors & not much else.
It is fitted with the 808 computer, with the NVram & ECM comms board, from here.
While I have some experience with aftermarket ECU’s, I am on a steep learning curve with the 808!
Some of the things I would appreciate help/advice with:
Because of the camshaft, idle mixture was very rough & rich, causing fouled plugs etc. Jayme was good enough to offer a couple of suggestions re this issue; I managed to improve the idle by playing with the appropriate part of the VE tables. I also experimented with taking the MAP sensor out of the equation below 2k rpm.
This was a big improvement, though it does seem inconsistent still.
My biggest question, though, is that given this is a track only car, is it possible to “strip” the software to the necessities for our purpose, thereby making a little easier for me to understand & get it running consistently well?
Has anyone else done this?
If so, would you have a bin I could look at as a guide?
Any other help would be appreciated.
The 808 is currently running a modified OSE $12P bin.
Thanks,
Ray

Re: 808 Track car help please
That will be tuneable no problem, not saying it will be easy or quick though.
How did you diable the MAP sensor under 200rpm? Closed throttle VE is only used with a closed throttle not while driving.
As for stripping not needed items. You can delete them from the XDF to be les overwhelming but the code will still be runnning. But only 6 or 8 items will need modifying not all of them.
Post up a bin and a matching log and you will vet some guidance. Have you set it up for your injectors?

Re: 808 Track car help please
don't over complicate things, in most cases all you need to do to tune a modified motor is adjust the ve table, spark table and probably some of the idle speed settings.....
theres other things you can do when your more fluent with it, but generally you should get a good result without needed to go that far .....
im not sure what you mean by taking the map sensor out of the equation ? using closed throttle VE? unless its a huge cam with no vacuum i don't see that you'll need it ?
do you have a wideand sensor ?
also in my signature is a link to the basic tuning guide, i'd recommend having a good look over that.

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

where is the air temp sensor in the plenum or intake runner or still in the air inlet pipe.post a tune up and a log
If Its Got Gas Or Ass Count Me In.if it cant be fixed with a hammer you have an electrical problem

Re: 808 Track car help please
Dylan, it's the CTVE table I have adjusted re MAP sensor. I feel like a dumbarse, as the words "Closed throttle" didn't sink in till you mentioned it!!
It's running stock injectors at present.
202, I have been reading the tuning guide & any other threads I can find, it seems mostly to relate to road cars, as opposed to circuit only?
It has a Zeitronix wideband & logger, with which we are also logging TPS & RPM.
delcowizzid, IAT is in the plenum.
I've attached a recent file.
I can attach the wideband file, but you'd need the zeitronix software to view it.
Edit: It seems the Zeitronix file extension sdl is not allowed.

Re: 808 Track car help please
Look into having that wideband logged with the delco. Need to cross reference with more than just TPS. Stock injectors from the ecotec do you mean? If so it'll be good to adjust the injector tables to suit. After some work closed throttle wont be needed I'd expect. I've been lucky enough to see the bin and some logs from the user Biggvl ha has a worked ecotec on an 808. It's all achievable.
Keep up the enthusiasm it's good fun and rewarding.

Yes, they are the stock ecotec items.
Thanks for the encouragement, it is challenging, but I feel like I'm learning a lot...

Re: 808 Track car help please
are you able to log map sensor with the zetronix ? really thats all you need, map and rpm with the wideband to allow you to translate that into tune changes.
as for the tuning guide, the information in it is specific to $11P/$12P code but other than that its pretty much the same information for a streeter or track car, the only real difference is you'll be flat out most of the time in a track car ..... but the method for tuning is still the same.
if you can log with the delco that would be the best option, if its not an easy solution for you then if you can get the map sensor info into the zetronix that will give you the data you need to tune fuel.

Re: 808 Track car help please
turn the idle rpm up in the tune will help you a lot trying to idle a decient cam at 700rpm will be a struggle.also judging by the ve table shape you need to correct this table "Charge Temp - % Coolant contribution for calculating charge temp Vs RPM & MAP" to suit the new location of the inlet air temp sensor thats normally in a heatsoaked runner right by the head in buicks.ide probably also change commanded idle a/f ratio from 14.7 to 13's in the higher temp areas as well at least while trying to tune idle so its not allways changing whats commanded as you tweak ve to sort the idle

Thanks, delcowizzid, good info.
Having trouble finding "commanded idle a/f ratio", though.
I'll keep plugging away...
