Re: Vlad's rides thread
vlad, this seems really odd that you're having trouble finding parts just rebuilding a T5 dude? its not like the T5 was made in 1912 or anything ... ?

That's because our t5 were a weird creation not standard anywhere else in the world. Those odd Aussie parts were NLA pretty much when they were new as the were controlled and produced by Borg Warner not Holden or Ford. Where is the Borg Warner factory in Australia? There isn't one so that answers why spares are not available expect USA spec world class T5 parts purchased from the USA which can substitute 80% of the box internals. Some of the commom tremec compointents in the USA are already NLA and only becoming more so. They are a really old box dating back to the early 80s. Certainly not common by today's standards.
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

Re: Vlad's rides thread
yep, They only carry the basics and certainly less than what you can buy direct over seas. They supply a lot of the gearbox specialists around with components.
Anyway I don't need any parts. Im sorted now, just the bush which I have someone that is going to make me some.
I have talked to many industry bearing specialists and for certain this is a hybrid metric/imperial bush, basically non existent in todays world.
tremec/BW are shocking for trying to get individual components. I talked to tremec directly and they will not sell you a shifter. you need to buy a whole T5 if you want one.
Same deal with the bush, you need a whole extension housing to be purchased but thats pointless as the extension housings are unlikely to be available and if they were they would be US mustang ones which have vastly different bushes.
Its a pointless exercise, you just get some custom made and be done with it.

Re: Vlad's rides thread
blaster said my box is ready and his brother has a VN s1 engine and box with most of the manual parts he's offered to sell me. had it for 15 years and got 60k on it he recons. Said it looks like brand new.
Keen to check it out and stash it and my nephew can take the engine for his VP manual conversion project. He has a box already but a new engine will make the change over a lot easier and probably cheaper. Plus s1 v6 with pacemakers = ftw!

Re: Vlad's rides thread
This is funny, almost a deja vu thing really, as I went down the same path with GForce about 5 years back. Got to the point where they agreed to make the custom V6 input shaft for our WC T5's ............as long as I paid half up front for the minimum order 25 shafts to be made. I had to decline as at the time $6000 (exchange rate then) was not an option. Doubtful I would have found 25 people interested in building their own V6 G-Force equipped T5 box.vlad01 wrote:check what good stuff you can get from gforce for the old t5

Don't mind me, just thinking out loud with crazy ideas again.
I like that fact you can get dog gear set.
Also looking at the ford set and main shaft and syncro 5th set they will drop in a v6 box and the only thing that you would have to worry about is getting a custom input shaft made. Having spoken to gforce I get the vibe they wont be interested in in custom shafts but you never know. PPG would do it for sure, thats half what they do. Sure would beat paying for their full set if you have seen the prices.
I don't think welding them is a good idea like most suggest for the intended torque these sets are made for. 500-600 ft-lb or 670-800 ish Nm
Did a thread about it all on L67Torque forum.

Would have been nice to have built 25 boxes. Cause now over the years we probably could have sold them off.
Cheers
