Re: Vlad's rides thread
Yeah Ive got the 12 ton one...make sure you get the optional press/drift kit save you having to go back later......Oh and get a big bit of foam to place at the base of the press, so the bushes dont bounce and hit you in the shin

Re: Vlad's rides thread
I ended up getting the 20 ton one as they were only 300 bucks as its tall enough to do axles too unlike the 12 ton one.
They don't sell drifts at total tools. I might see if any of the engineers I use have some bar stock I can have for this purpose.
Also have ordered in the dial torque wrench. Damn expensive. 480 bucks latter.... Oh well tax write off for next year.

This is the drift kit http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online ... mendations
so long as you can get the main fitting to slide over the jack pin it makes life so much easy as the drifts lock in

Hmm. I need ones much longer than that. I'll just see I get some bar stock at 300mm to do the internal case bearing.

Re: Vlad's rides thread
never done bearings like that with a press...normally throw the bearing in the freezer..heat the casing with a butane torch and tap in with a suitable socket and extension bar.....

Re: Vlad's rides thread
Bearing has an o ring so not really an option. Also using hylomar sealer so not sure how that will fair with heat and cooling. I got to make sure it's seated 100% down as this bearing holds some preload for the counter and the press will make sure of that and any sealer is pushed out so no loss of preload occurs during operation. Idea is to press it in with a ton or 2 and hold that pressure for a while to allow the bearing to settle fully.

Re: Vlad's rides thread
Oring should be fine nfi on how the sealer will cope, to be fair you only heating the local area not welding it
...I just wouldn't trust pushing bearings in with a press, as you have no feel or aural feedback
then again in this case it maybe the only way
